The Program Mgr plans and manages projects and/or programs, resource requirements, training needs, deliverables, and manages the design and testing of projects, inclusive of data management. May provide statistical analyses of quality improvement data.

Program Manager, Global Palliative Care Program

Overview

The Department of Global Pediatric Medicine (GPM) is a growing department looking for professionals who are eager to help implement the St. Jude Global (SJG) mission of training the clinical workforce, developing and strengthening health systems and patient-centered initiatives, and advancing knowledge to sustain continuous improvement through research.  

This position may be eligible for remote work. However, St. Jude requires all remote employees to:  
• Travel to our Memphis campus for the interview process and orientation (if selected). 
• Travel to Memphis to be on-site once per quarter, and additionally as needed.

Summary

GPM is seeking a detail-oriented Program Manager to assist in the management, implementation, and oversight of projects and initiatives in the Global Palliative Care Program for GPM and SJG. This essential role serves as a team lead for a rapidly growing program designed to support education, capacity building, research, and advocacy in pediatric palliative care. As part of their responsibilities, this individual will work closely with various SJG transversal and regional units, as well as numerous global partner organizations and cooperative groups.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the planning and execution of a program including defining objectives, approaches, goals, governance mechanisms, resource deployment, periodic reviews, contingency planning and periodic reporting and communication.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams internally and externally to achieve defined outcomes aligned with departmental strategy. Excellent communication skills are essential.
  • Oversee staff performing functions for the Palliative Care Program, monitor timelines and contributor progress to report back to stakeholders.
  • Drive internal stakeholder management and communications, management of external vendors, and strong partnership with stakeholders inside and outside the institution.
  • Track program success metrics post-completion, drive program evaluation and identify opportunities for process improvements for strategic planning and growth.
  • Oversee and manage program budgets through planning, control and tracking of expenditure.
  • Mentor less experienced members of the team through feedback and training.
  • Plan workload for team and gives clear instructions and expectations on delivery.
  • Frequently reviews work, gives positive and constructive feedback, and completes evaluations.
  • Defines scope and milestones clearly with a clear understanding of customer needs and overall program
  • Evaluates and proposes suitable vendors based on understanding of vendor offerings, business needs, and internal evaluation criteria.
  • Negotiates and oversees vendor service levels/terms for own area in line with organizational objectives.
  • Addresses complex vendor issues around delivery through engagement with vendor leadership.
  • Performs technical or academic writing, as needed.

  • Knowledge and skill to develop and oversee operating budgets and cost-effectively manage budgets without compromising results.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously and effectively.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to apply creativity to the development of strategies and programs.
  • Analytical skills with which to interpret data, develop forecasts, and identify trends.
  • Ability to handle sensitive matters in a confidential and professional manner.
  • Cultural sensitivity is a must.

Minimum Education

  • Bachelor's degree with 4+ years of experience in program management and delivery

Minimum Experience

  • Experience designing and managing programs.
  • Experience in program budget tracking, reporting and risk management.
  • Proven experience engaging with senior leaders to facilitate decision making.
  • Experience providing guidance and mentorship within program management team.
  • Some experience driving continuous program improvement projects.

Compensation

In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $78,000 - $139,360 per year for the role of Program Manager, Global Palliative Care Program.
