Job description

Intro

Are you ready to explore a world of possibilities, both at work and during your time off? Join our American Airlines family, and you’ll travel the world, grow your expertise and become the best version of you.  As you embark on a new journey, you’ll tackle challenges with flexibility and grace, learning new skills and advancing your career while having the time of your life.  Feel free to enrich both your personal and work life and hop on board!

Why you'll love this job

  • Because you're creative, tenacious and strategic.  You love to solve problems and earn respect.
  • Because you're multidimensional: able to analyze a problem, dream up the best solution, design programs & processes, document your own requirements, specs & testing plans, do the coding, run the QA, implement the project, and communicate to the users, management & future programmers.  You like to do it all and see projects through to completion.
  • Because you'll get to shape the future of AA Flight Training as we modernize our code base into Azure and introduce a new SuccessFactors LMS & mobile app, for starters.  You like having an impact and a voice in making things more efficient and effective.
  • Because you understand American Airline's cybersecurity policies and coding best practices, and are comfortable & proactive with standards.
  • Because you've got a deep curiosity and love both the technical and human elements in a field like flight training.  You can work alone or with a team.  You are maverick enough to enjoy working directly in the business unit as this position is not part of the IT department.

What you'll do

  • Deploys and supports Pilot Training through the corporate LMS for over 15,000 student users
  • Supports Corporate and Regulatory-required DL courses
  • Supports off-site training servers for AAPILOTS web pages and content

  • Collaborates with leaders, business analysts, project managers, IT architects, technical leads and other developers, along with internal customers, to understand requirements and develop needs according to business requirements
  • Handles interdepartmental contacts for the Programmer group and coordinates policy and processes with other work groups and business unit management
  • Maintains and enhances existing enterprise services, applications, and platforms using domain driven design and test-driven development
  • Maintains and develops desktop and web apps, databases including SQL and MS Access and Databricks, and macro-driven spreadsheets using VBA, for both internal and interdepartmental uses
  • Documents the standards and processes for the general design and development of computer software and media used in support of applicable learning programs, department administration, and associated systems.
  • Troubleshoots and debugs complex issues; identifies and implements solutions
  • Researches and implements new technologies to enhance current processes, security, and performance.
  • Researches and analyzes current industry trends in relation to computer systems in support of flight training, and propose course(s) of action.
