Job Summary
Teach a variety of Computer Information Systems (CIS) courses at Mesa Community College, with a focus on programming, database systems, and data analytics. Instruction includes foundational and intermediate programming courses such as Object-Oriented Programming Fundamentals, C#, Python, R, and Java. Teach database courses covering including MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, NoSQL, and other Big Data applications. Teach data visualization courses with a focus on industry-standard tools such as Tableau, Microsoft Power BI, and other data visualization platforms, emphasizing practical application and analytical storytelling techniques. Develop course content that emphasizes hands-on, industry-relevant instruction, fostering practical application, critical thinking, and real-world problem-solving to enhance student success in the technology field.
Essential Functions
- Supervises and instructs a diverse population of students in a classroom and/or online setting
- Develops written syllabi/course outlines and uses a range of course materials
- Evaluates knowledge of subject matter taught and monitors students records, scholastic records
- Utilizes departmental and college support systems to maximize student learning and engagement (e.g. Dropout Detective)
- Prepares and grades assignments, including exams (if used)
- Maintains subject-matter knowledge and skills that reflect industry approaches to data analytics and software development
- Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
The Occupational Teaching Fields require the following from an accredited college or university:
- A Master’s degree in the teaching field OR
- A Master’s degree in any field with 18 graduate credits in the teaching field OR
- A Master’s degree in any field with a combination of 24 upper division and/or graduate credits in the teaching field (Upper-division courses are Junior and Senior level courses in obtaining a Bachelor’s degree) OR
- A Bachelor’s degree and three years of occupational experience in the field to be taught OR
- Five years of occupational experience in the field to be taught OR
- A Journeyman certification in the field to be taught
Desired Qualifications
- Two (2) years’ work experience in systems analysis, database administration, app development or a related field
- Previous experience with teaching, training or extensive delivering technical presentations
- Demonstrated excellence in communication skills
- Previous experience with an online LMS (e.g. Canvas)
