About the role
The Project Controller will play a key role in supporting the successful delivery of major capital projects by providing robust project controls across financial, schedule, risk, change and performance management. Working closely with Project Manager and broader teams, you will ensure project information is accurate, timely and reliable, enabling informed decision-making throughout the project lifecycle.
You will be responsible for establishing and maintaining project baselines, budgets, forecasts and performance reporting, while identifying trends, risks and opportunities to support successful project outcomes. Through your expertise in project controls, performance measurement and governance, you will contribute to the continuous improvement of systems, processes and reporting, helping to deliver projects safely, efficiently and in line with strategic objectives.
Responsibilities also include:
- Develop and maintain project controls frameworks, including project baselines, Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), budgets, forecasts and performance metrics, ensuring alignment across project scope, schedule and cost.
- Monitor and analyse project performance using project controls methodologies, including Earned Value Management (EVM), variance analysis and forecasting techniques, providing insights and recommendations to support decision-making and project delivery.
- Support project governance through effective cost control, change management, risk and opportunity management, performance reporting and the maintenance of accurate, auditable project data.
- Collaborate with Project Managers, contractors and key stakeholders to provide project controls expertise, drive continuous improvement and contribute to the successful delivery of TasNetworks' capital project portfolio.
About you
You are an experienced project controls professional with a strong background in capital works, infrastructure, engineering, construction or utility environments. You bring expertise in project cost control, forecasting, performance management and reporting, with a solid understanding of project management principles and controls disciplines.
You are a highly analytical problem solver who can interpret complex project information and translate it into meaningful insights that support decision-making. You build strong relationships across multidisciplinary teams and communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders. With a proactive and practical approach, you are comfortable working in a dynamic environment, identifying issues early and implementing solutions that support successful project outcomes.
You’ll also bring:
- Demonstrated experience in project controls, cost management, forecasting and performance reporting within infrastructure, construction, engineering or utility project environments.
- Strong understanding of project controls disciplines, including cost management, scheduling, risk management, Earned Value Management (EVM) and performance measurement.
- Highly developed analytical, problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to provide practical insights and recommendations from complex project data.
- Proven ability to utilise project controls and ERP systems such as SAP, Primavera P6, InEight, Power BI and advanced Microsoft Excel to support project delivery outcomes.
