Job description

Imagine working at the forefront of innovation in fluid-flow technology, with over 1,400 colleagues across the globe, and contributing to a legacy of excellence that spans eight manufacturing facilities on four continents. Armstrong Fluid Technology is more than just a leader in our industry; we are a community of the brightest and most creative minds, driven by a shared mission to engineer the future and safeguard our planet.

As part of our team, you'll be immersed in an environment that fosters growth, creativity, and collaboration. Here, you'll have the opportunity to push boundaries, tackle exciting challenges, and develop cutting-edge solutions that promote energy efficiency and reduce environmental impact. Every day offers the chance to make a meaningful contribution to a more sustainable future, driving innovations that help lower global carbon footprints. Together, we’re creating a legacy that goes beyond business—one that’s changing the world for the better.

In this role, you will lead mechanical design, engineering development, installation, and commissioning activities for pump testing systems, manufacturing improvement projects, and production support initiatives. The position emphasizes technical depth in system design, sizing calculations, engineering analysis, validation, automation system designs and test rig development while driving standardization and continuous improvement across Armstrong’s global and manufacturing environments.

Key Accountabilities

Design & Engineering

  • Lead mechanical design, installation, integration, and commissioning activities for manufacturing and improvement projects.
  • Develop engineering design packages including layouts, 3D models, mechanical assemblies, P&IDs, and system documentation.
  • Perform sizing calculations and engineering analysis for pumps, piping, valves, and fluid-handling systems.
  • Support automation systems, test rig development, and engineering standardization initiatives.

Installation, Integration & Commissioning

  • Provide engineering oversight during installation, commissioning, and startup of mechanical systems and test rigs.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, and instrumentation-related issues.
  • Develop commissioning procedures, validation steps, and operational documentation.
  • Support production and maintenance teams with system integration and training.

Technical Evaluation, Verification & Validation

  • Conduct technical evaluations, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis for equipment and system performance issues.
  • Validate pump testing methodologies, system accuracy, and engineering deliverables against required standards.
  • Prepare technical reports, engineering documentation, and validation records.

Standardization & Continuous Improvement

  • Support engineering standardization, process optimization, and lean manufacturing initiatives.
  • Contribute to sustainability and operational efficiency projects aimed at reducing waste and improving reliability.
  • Develop engineering templates, calculation tools, and best practices for manufacturing operations.

Production & Operational Support

  • Provide technical support to production teams for resolving operational and system-level issues.
  • Recommend design modifications, equipment upgrades, and process improvements to enhance efficiency and test accuracy.
  • Support operational readiness for new product and manufacturing initiatives.

What We’re Looking For

To thrive in this role, you should bring:

Education & Experience

  • Degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Industrial Manufacturing, or related Engineering field.
  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical design, manufacturing, maintenance, or project engineering.
  • Experience with pump manufacturing, pumping systems, rotating equipment, or fluid-handling systems is highly preferred.
  • Experience with commissioning, validation, troubleshooting, and production support in manufacturing environments.
  • PMP, Lean, EIT/PE, or related certifications are considered assets.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, fluid systems, hydraulics, and pump performance.
  • Familiarity with automation systems, instrumentation, controls, VFDs, and data acquisition systems.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including advanced Excel skills.

Soft Skills

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with cross-functional teams.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects.
  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and solution-focused mindset.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly and effectively.
