Job Description
Job Summary: The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) has successfully completed the required competency assessment and maintains RBT certification. Under the direction and ongoing supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) in conjunction with the supervising Special Education teacher, the RBT implements individualized behavior intervention plans, collects and analyzes data, and supports students with intensive behavioral needs. The RBT plays a critical role in supporting students’ social, emotional, behavioral, and communication development through the consistent application of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles.

The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) is a specialist requiring demonstrated competency in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and ongoing supervision by a BCBA. This position is responsible for implementing and data-tracking individualized behavior intervention plans with a high level of fidelity and clinical oversight.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned.

- Exercises consistent and active supervision of assigned student(s).

- Implementation of behavior intervention plans with fidelity under BCBA supervision.

- Provides one-on-one and small group behavioral and instructional support to students with intensive behavioral, social-emotional, or developmental needs.

- Assists teachers and related service providers in implementing visual supports, social skills instruction, communication supports, and behavioral interventions.

- Supports students in developing communication, social, adaptive, and self-regulation skills.

- Utilizes approved evidence-based behavior support strategies, including reinforcement, prompting, redirection, and de-escalation techniques.

- Assists with implementation of IEP goals related to behavior, social-emotional functioning, and adaptive skills.

- Supports students during transitions, community activities, lunch, recess, transportation, and other less structured environments.

- Provides FBA data collection and behavioral assessment support.

- Assists with crisis prevention and intervention using district-approved procedures and training.

- Helps students generalize learned skills across educational settings.

- Assists with the preparation and organization of instructional and behavioral materials.

- Collaborates with teachers, service providers, and families to support consistency of interventions.

- Provides input regarding student progress, participation, and behavioral performance.

- Participates in team meetings, IEP meetings, coaching sessions, and required professional development.

- Adheres to ABA-specific practices (shaping, discrete trial teaching, behavior analytic procedures).

- Completes and submits Medicaid documentation requirements specific to ABA services.

- Maintains strict confidentiality of student information in accordance with FERPA and district policies.

- Follows all district policies, procedures, and professional/ethical standards

Supervision Received: Reports to, receives daily work assignments, and is evaluated by BCBA in collaboration with supervising Special Education teacher.

Qualification Requirements:

- Education: Associates degree or equivalent credits required; will accept Acuplacer or ParaPro results as alternative to degree. Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Education, Special Education, or a related Social Services field preferred.

- Certification: Certified Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) required.

- Experience: Experience working with students with behavioral or developmental needs preferred.

- Knowledge & Skills: Working knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles and practices. Ability to implement behavior intervention plans with consistency and fidelity. Strong data collection and documentation skills. Ability to follow detailed written and verbal instructions.

- Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Ability to communicate courteously, efficiently and effectively with a variety of individuals, including students, faculty, administrators, parents, and representatives of outside organizations and staff. Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with peers, subordinates, supervisors, parents, and outside agencies. Ability to effectively resolve conflicts.

Position Type: School Year - Plus
Salary: $28.42 to $29.68 Per Hour
