In addition, the Reliability Engineer detects and resolves operational inefficiencies within the department, contributing to continuous improvement and enhanced performance. The position supports innovation and long-term growth by researching emerging technologies and leading or supporting engineering projects through effective project management.

Main Responsibilities / Essential Functions

  • Analyze equipment performance data to identify trends, chronic failures, and opportunities for reliability improvement.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain preventive and predictive maintenance strategies.

  • Lead root cause analysis and failure modes and effects analysis to investigate equipment failures and recommend corrective actions in a timely manner.

  • Collaborate with maintenance, operations, and engineering teams to resolve equipment reliability issues and implement sustainable solutions.

  • Evaluate and optimize asset life cycle strategies, including spare parts management, equipment upgrades, and replacements.

  • Support capital projects by providing input on equipment selection, reliability specifications, and risk assessments.

  • Utilize reliability tools and software (e.g., CMMS, vibration analysis, thermography, lubrication analysis, etc.) to improve equipment uptime and reduce unplanned downtime.

  • Continuously work to improve equipment uptime, quality performance, and throughput by optimizing reliability and maintenance practices.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing operational inefficiencies within the department.

  • Monitor and report key performance indicators (KPIs) related to equipment reliability, maintenance effectiveness, and asset performance; assist in tracking maintenance and reliability performance metrics; generate and present weekly reports to support decision-making and drive accountability.

  • Research and apply emerging technologies to improve equipment reliability and plant efficiency.

  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, environmental, ethics, and regulatory standards in all reliability initiatives.

  • Provide training and guidance to maintenance and operations team members on reliability best practices and equipment care.

  • Execute the SSAB Change Management Procedure – including safety checklists for new or modified equipment – and collaborate with vendors and engineering teams to ensure designs meet safety, performance, and reliability requirements.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) in reliability engineering, providing technical guidance and support across various maintenance and operational functions.

Company

Becoming part of the SSAB family means joining a journey. A journey that we believe is essential for the sustainability of this planet. Steel has been one of the most important materials for developing our society and it will continue to be so. In the roofs over our heads, in the bridges connecting our cities and in the cars of tomorrow. At SSAB we are proud of our history and leadership in high-strength steel. But we are also aware that the production of steel is one of the largest emitters of greenhouse gases in the world. That has to change. That is why we have developed the world’s first fossil-free steel production and have committed to becoming largely fossil-free. As part of SSAB you will be instrumental in realizing this goal and pushing for the green transformation of the whole steel industry.
