As a Senior Backend Developer at Halo, you are responsible for designing and delivering complex backend systems while driving technical excellence across the team.
This role requires strong technical ownership and the ability to operate independently in high-impact environments, with a high degree of autonomy, owning complex features end-to-end, influencing architectural decisions, and ensuring that solutions are scalable, maintainable, and aligned with business goals. You act as a key partner to the Technical Lead in maintaining system integrity and delivery quality.
Key Responsibilities
1. Backend Development & System Design
Own complex features and initiatives end-to-end, from design through production deployment, helping define clear approaches, trade-offs, and implementation strategies.
Break down complex problems into structured, executable tasks and guide others when needed.
Provide accurate estimates and proactively manage risks within your scope.
Ensure all deliverables meet the project’s Definition of Done (DoD) and quality standards.
Actively contribute to maintaining delivery predictability and technical integrity.
Own database design, development, and optimization of data modeling and queries.
Implementing security measures, data protection, and optimizing applications for speed and scalability.
Ensure compliance with CI/CD, security practices, and project standards.
2. Collaboration & Delivery
Work closely with the Technical Lead and other engineers to implement assigned tasks.
Participate actively in Agile ceremonies (standups, planning, refinement sessions, retrospectives, and technical discussions).
Collaborate with frontend teams to deliver complete features
Communicate progress, risks, blockers, and technical decisions clearly and proactively.
Contribute to a collaborative and accountable team environment.
3. Integration & Architecture
Creating secure, scalable, robust APIs for front-end and third-party integration.
Collaborate with frontend teams to deliver end-to-end solutions
Contribute to architectural decisions in collaboration with the Technical Lead.
3. Code Quality & Best Practices
Write clean, well-structured, scalable, testable, and well-documented code aligned with team standards and architectural guidelines.
Participate actively in code reviews, both as author and reviewer, setting a high standard for quality and maintainability.
Ensure appropriate test coverage (unit, integration) and reliability of implemented solutions.
Drive improvements in codebase health, reducing technical debt and increasing maintainability.
4. Troubleshooting & Optimization
Identify risks, dependencies, and edge cases early, and take ownership of resolving them.
Analyze complex technical challenges and propose effective, pragmatic solutions.
Debug production issues and ensure system stability
Contribute to the continuous improvement of systems, processes, and engineering practices by identifying and addressing system-wide concerns such as performance, scalability, reliability, and security.
Monitor and improve backend processes
Qualifications
5+ years of professional backend development experience
Strong proficiency in Node.js (TypeScript/JavaScript) as the primary stack, alongside working experience with Python.
High autonomy and ability to manage complex technical challenges independently
Strong experience designing and building backend systems and APIs.
Deep understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and system design principles.
Experience with CI/CD pipelines, cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP), and modern development practices.
Strong communication skills and ability to influence technical decisions.
Strong problem-solving skills and system design understanding
Experience working in agile teams
Strong experience with databases (relational and/or NoSQL).
Web Frameworks: Experience with frameworks relevant to the language, such as Express.js.
DevOps/Tools: Knowledge of server management, Git version control, and containerization tools like Docker.
