Job description

About NuWave
Most people think microwaves are a solved problem.

They aren't.

NuWave develops industrial microwave processing systems for advanced materials, drying, thermal treatment, recycling, resource recovery, and emerging industrial applications.

Our team works at the intersection of engineering, materials science, thermal processing, and industrial commercialization—taking technologies from concept and pilot scale through to real-world deployment.
As we continue to scale, we are seeking a Process Engineer or Senior Process Engineer to help drive process development, pilot plant execution, industrial scale-up, and customer deployment activities.

The Opportunity
This role is ideal for a hands-on engineer who enjoys solving difficult industrial challenges and working across the entire development lifecycle.

You will play a key role in:
  • Process development.
  • Pilot plant operations.
  • Scale-up engineering.
  • Equipment commissioning.
  • Process optimization.
  • Customer application development.
  • Depending on your experience, the role may be structured as either an emerging engineer position or a senior technical leadership role.

What You'll Do:
  • Process Development & Scale-Up.
  • Develop process concepts and scale-up strategies.
  • Perform mass and energy balances.
  • Support PFD and P&ID development.
  • Perform equipment sizing and process calculations.
  • Support process modelling and simulation activities.
  • Develop and execute scale-up plans for novel technologies.
  • Pilot Plant & Experimental Work.
  • Design and execute experimental plans.
  • Analyze process and experimental data.
  • Support operation of pilot-scale equipment.
  • Evaluate process performance and identify optimization opportunities.
  • Support development of new applications and technologies.
  • Industrial Deployment & Commissioning.
  • Participate in equipment installation, startup, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
  • Work directly with vendors, fabricators, contractors, and plant personnel.
  • Assist with field service activities when required.
  • Support customer demonstrations and industrial trials.
  • Technical Leadership.
  • Develop operating procedures and technical documentation.
  • Participate in hazard reviews and risk assessments.
  • Provide technical guidance across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Support project execution from concept through commercialization.

Required Qualifications:
Registration Requirements:
Registered with EGBC as either:
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT), or
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.).

Education:
Degree in one of the following disciplines:
  • Chemical Engineering.
  • Process Engineering.
  • Engineering Physics.
  • Mechanical Engineering (with significant process experience).
  • Similar engineering discipline.

Highly Valued Experience:
  • Pilot plant operations.
  • Technology scale-up.
  • Equipment commissioning and startup.
  • Process modelling and simulation (Aspen Plus or similar).
  • Mass and energy balance development.
  • Equipment sizing and specification.
  • PFD and P&ID development.
  • Process safety reviews, HAZOPs, and risk assessments.
  • Handling of explosive dusts and/or flammable liquids.
  • Mining, battery materials, chemicals, biomass, recycling, advanced materials, or industrial manufacturing processes.
  • Leadership of technical teams and multidisciplinary projects.

Nice-to-Have Experience:
Experience in any of the following would be considered a significant asset:
  • Industrial microwave processing.
  • RF systems and dielectric heating.
  • High-temperature reaction systems.
  • Pyrolysis.
  • Vacuum processing systems.
  • Drying technologies.
  • Heat and mass transfer modelling.
  • Design of Experiments (DOE).
  • Advanced process control.

What Success Looks Like:
The successful candidate will help NuWave:
  • Scale technologies from laboratory and pilot systems into commercial deployment.
  • Improve execution of customer trials and process development programs.
  • Increase confidence in scale-up and commercialization decisions.
  • Support installation and commissioning of industrial equipment.
  • Translate customer challenges into practical process solutions.

Why Join NuWave
  • Work with highly differentiated industrial technology in an emerging market.
  • Participate in projects spanning recycling, advanced materials, mining, thermal processing, and resource recovery.
  • Join a small, agile team where your contributions have direct impact.
  • Help define the future of industrial microwave processing.
  • See technologies progress from concept, to pilot, to commercial implementation.

Apply
We welcome conversations with both experienced professionals and emerging engineers who are excited about building expertise in an innovative and growing field. Please note that only candidates of interest will be contacted.
