Google Ads is the programmatic engine and data bedrock that powers businesses and connects customers globally. As a Senior Software Engineer on the Ads Data Layer ADL Infrastructure team, you will design the next generation of distributed storage, caching, and data processing architectures that underpin Google’s commercial systems.

Due to global infrastructure capacity constraints, this team’s mandate has evolved beyond standard resource optimization. You will lead a critical, multi-year re-architecture of the core database stack to ensure operational resilience and business continuity. This involves redesigning how the platform manages replication, caching, and redundancy to scale sustainably while minimizing resource consumption. Additionally, you will pioneer the integration of LLM-based autonomous systems to automate and enforce resource governance across the organization.

Responsibilities

• Write and test product or system development code in Java, C++, Python, or Go to design and implement efficient, next-generation distributed caching and database architectures.
• Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide amongst available technologies for global Ads data storage and scaling systems.
• Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices regarding testing, maintainability, and compute/memory resource efficiency.
• Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and adapt content based on product/program updates and user feedback to share resource governance standards.
• Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.
