Overview

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer with strong experience in developing scalable APIs and backend services. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in designing and building high-performance distributed systems capable of supporting thousands of requests per second (RPS). This individual will also help guide engineering teams, promote coding best practices, and contribute to technical strategy.

Paramount operates in a multi-cloud environment, leveraging Java (Spring Boot), Golang, and a variety of cloud technologies across AWS and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) to support its streaming infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement scalable middleware APIs and backend services supporting user management and other core API services across Pluto TV.
• Build highly performant systems using Java (Spring Boot) and Golang, capable of handling thousands of requests per second (RPS).
• Optimize, maintain, and enhance existing high-performance services running on both AWS and GCP.
• Integrate services across Paramount Streaming platforms to ensure seamless functionality and user experience.
• Leverage GCP technologies such as Pub/Sub, GKE, and Cloud SQL to build robust, scalable, and resilient systems.
• Maintain and support AWS services including EKS, ECS, Lambda, and Step Functions during cloud transformation initiatives.
• Advocate for coding excellence and enforce software engineering best practices for high-throughput applications.
• Participate actively in system design, architecture reviews, and technical decision-making.
• Contribute to technical roadmaps and long-term platform strategies across AWS and GCP ecosystems.
• Collaborate with cross-functional Agile teams, including software engineers, data engineers, product managers, and architects.
• Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing engineering culture.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
• 9+ years of software development experience.
• 5+ years of experience building highly scalable APIs and backend services capable of processing thousands of RPS.
• Strong proficiency in Java and Spring Boot.
• Professional experience developing applications using Golang.
• 3+ years of experience building containerized applications using technologies such as Docker.
• Hands-on experience with container orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes, EKS, ECS, or GKE.
• Experience with GCP technologies including:

• • Pub/Sub
  • Kubernetes (GKE)
  • Cloud SQL / MySQL
  • YugabyteDB

• Strong understanding of cloud-native architectures and distributed systems.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively in global, cross-functional environments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Additional experience in advanced Java development and object-oriented programming concepts.
• Prior experience with Kafka and event-driven architectures.
• Deep expertise in GCP services, especially Pub/Sub, GKE, MySQL, and Cloud-native solutions.
• Proven success designing, developing, and deploying services that support:

  • Millions of monthly active users (MAUs)

• Intermediate to expert-level knowledge of:

• • Amazon EKS
  • Google GKE
  • Vanilla Kubernetes

• Experience operating large-scale, mission-critical production systems.
