Role Description

The Test Engineering team at Form Energy is hiring a Sr. Test Engineer (Process Development) for our Electrochemical test team in Berkeley, CA. This role works collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team to deliver battery testing best practices that enable the development of Form Energy’s multi-day batteries. You will become an expert on our systems and use your knowledge to drive safety and efficiency in workflows while not compromising on data integrity or asset health. You will interface with partner teams across the organization to understand end user and operational requirements and deliver robust solutions through both methods and automation tools.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the scaling of our battery technology and be part of the growth of a fast-moving company with breakthrough technology and an incredible mission!

Relocation assistance is available.

What you'll do:

  • Own and develop the processes for commissioning and testing our largest lab scale batteries.

  • Create and maintain robust documentation and supplementary material to turn valuable knowledge into resources for use and context across the company.

  • Optimize procedures, evolving quick-turn workflows into refined strategies, focusing on improvements ranging from safety to efficiency and data integrity.

  • Contribute to the translation of best practices into the field, ensuring learnings in the lab aid procedures downstream.

  • Formulate and implement automation strategies utilizing Python and in-house testing software to streamline battery testing procedures, improve data acquisition, enable safe operation of test systems, and enhance overall system performance. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align automation solutions with project goals and operational requirements.

  • Maintain a multi-faceted understanding of our constantly evolving product from fluid and electrical systems to electrochemistry in order to make informed decisions on best practices.

  • Work closely with engineers, technicians, and project managers to support the deployment and maintenance of test systems. Provide technical support and training to ensure effective use of your owned processes.

What you'll bring:

  • Degree in chemical or electrical engineering or related field and 4+ years of experience in method development.

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

  • A safety first mindset.

  • Proven experience owning procedures and work instructions while keeping up to date with constantly evolving subject matter.

  • Hands-on expertise executing tests of your own design across a wide breadth of systems.

  • Comfortable in a lab setting and familiarity with electrical hazards/caustic material safety and SDS usage.

  • Proficiency in Python and SQL and experienced with data analysis/tool creation for automation.

  • Excellent collaboration skills, with a track record of working effectively with cross-functional teams, engineers, technicians, and project managers to support system deployment and maintenance.
