Job description

Position Summary

The SharePoint Developer/Administrator provides SharePoint administration, development, and technical support to the Washington Headquarters Services (WHS), Facilities Services Directorate (FSD). The position is primarily responsible for the day-to-day administration, configuration, maintenance, and optimization of SharePoint environments while also providing development capabilities to enhance functionality, automate business processes, and address more complex technical requirements.

The SharePoint Developer/Administrator manages SharePoint sites, permissions, libraries, lists, workflows, and content while designing and implementing solutions that improve collaboration, information management, reporting, and operational efficiency. The position also supports dashboards, reporting, data visualization, and Microsoft 365 solutions used by WHS/FSD leadership and program personnel.

This role requires a strong SharePoint Administrator who also possesses hands-on development experience and can translate business and operational requirements into practical, scalable SharePoint and Microsoft 365 solutions.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

SharePoint Administration

  • Administer, configure, maintain, and optimize SharePoint sites, subsites, pages, lists, libraries, content types, metadata, permissions, and related components.
  • Manage user access, security groups, permissions, and site-level security in accordance with established policies and government requirements.
  • Monitor SharePoint environments for performance, availability, usability, and data integrity and proactively identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Create, configure, and maintain SharePoint lists, libraries, views, forms, templates, and site structures to support program and operational requirements.
  • Maintain site navigation, information architecture, metadata, and content organization to promote usability and effective information management.
  • Troubleshoot SharePoint access, permissions, configuration, workflow, data, and functionality issues and implement appropriate resolutions.
  • Support SharePoint governance, configuration management, documentation, and established standards and best practices.
  • Develop and maintain SharePoint user guidance, technical documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and system documentation.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to SharePoint users, program staff, and government stakeholders.

 

SharePoint Development and Automation

  • Design, develop, configure, and enhance SharePoint solutions based on operational and business requirements.
  • Develop and customize SharePoint pages, lists, libraries, forms, workflows, and other solutions to improve business processes and user experience.
  • Develop and maintain automated workflows and business processes using Power Automate and other approved Microsoft 365 tools.
  • Develop applications and customized business solutions using Power Apps, as required.
  • Develop and maintain custom SharePoint functionality using appropriate technologies and development frameworks based on the environment and customer requirements.
  • Evaluate existing SharePoint processes and solutions and recommend enhancements, automation, or development solutions to improve efficiency and functionality.
  • Translate business requirements into technical solutions while considering security, maintainability, scalability, and user experience.
  • Test, troubleshoot, document, deploy, and maintain SharePoint enhancements and custom solutions.
  • Support integration between SharePoint and other Microsoft 365 applications and approved enterprise systems, as required.

 

Reporting and Data Support

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance dashboards, reports, and data visualizations using Power BI and other approved analytical tools.
  • Integrate SharePoint data with Power BI and other reporting solutions to support operational visibility and performance reporting.
  • Analyze operational and program data to support performance tracking, reporting requirements, and leadership decision-making.
  • Develop and maintain data collection and reporting solutions using SharePoint, Microsoft 365, and related tools.
  • Prepare reports, dashboards, briefings, and presentation materials for program management and government stakeholders.
  • Review data products and reports for accuracy, completeness, consistency, and compliance with applicable standards.

 

Collaboration and Technical Support

  • Collaborate with WHS/FSD personnel, program leadership, technical teams, and other stakeholders to identify requirements and develop effective SharePoint and Microsoft 365 solutions.
  • Gather and document business, functional, and technical requirements for SharePoint enhancements and development efforts.
  • Recommend practical solutions to improve information sharing, collaboration, workflow automation, reporting, and data management.
  • Provide technical and analytical support to program and project leads.
  • Use Microsoft 365 applications, including SharePoint, Teams, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Power BI, Power Apps, and Power Automate, to support collaboration and operational requirements.
  • Perform other duties as required in support of the WHS/FSD mission.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant information technology, SharePoint, or enterprise systems experience, including significant hands-on SharePoint administration experience.
  • Demonstrated experience administering and supporting SharePoint environments, including sites, lists, libraries, permissions, workflows, metadata, content management, and information architecture.
  • Hands-on SharePoint development experience, including the development, customization, enhancement, and deployment of SharePoint solutions.
  • Experience developing and automating business processes using Microsoft Power Platform technologies, particularly Power Automate and Power Apps.
  • Experience developing dashboards, reports, and data visualizations using Power BI or comparable business intelligence tools.
  • Experience integrating SharePoint with Microsoft 365 applications and other enterprise data or business systems.
  • Experience gathering business requirements and translating them into functional and technical SharePoint solutions.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex SharePoint configuration, permissions, workflow, development, and integration issues.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications and technologies, including SharePoint, Teams, Power BI, Power Automate, Power Apps, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience supporting federal government, Department of Defense, or large enterprise environments.
  • Strong understanding of SharePoint governance, security, permissions, information architecture, and content management best practices.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, mission-focused environment.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing SharePoint solutions using SharePoint Framework (SPFx), JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, CSS, REST APIs, Microsoft Graph, or other applicable SharePoint development technologies.
  • Experience with SharePoint Online and Microsoft 365 administration.
  • Experience developing advanced Power Apps and Power Automate solutions.
  • Experience with PowerShell scripting for SharePoint or Microsoft 365 administration and automation.
  • Experience with SharePoint migrations, modernization, or environment upgrades.
  • Experience with data integration, API-based integrations, and automated data workflows.
  • Experience developing solutions within Department of Defense or other federal government environments.
  • Knowledge of federal information security, records management, accessibility, and data governance requirements.

 

Preferred Certifications

Relevant certifications may include:

  • Microsoft Power Platform certifications
  • Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst certification
  • Microsoft 365 certifications
  • Microsoft Azure certifications
  • SharePoint or Microsoft 365 administration/development certifications
  • Tableau or Qlik certifications, where applicable

 

Citizenship and Security Clearance

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • An active Secret security clearance is required.

 

Work Environment

  • Primary duty location is the Pentagon (WHS/FSD) in Arlington, Virginia.
  • This is an onsite position supporting WHS/FSD operations and requires regular in-person collaboration with government and contractor personnel.
