Job Summary

This role requires strong competency in Bash scripting and Linux/Unix command-line operations to automate operational tasks, support system administration, improve deployment processes, troubleshoot production issues, and enhance overall infrastructure reliability. The candidate should be able to design, write, test, debug, and maintain shell scripts that are secure, reusable, scalable, and well documented. Core Bash Competencies • Strong knowledge of Bash shell scripting concepts, including variables, arrays, functions, loops, conditionals, command substitution, quoting, and parameter expansion. • Ability to write modular, reusable, readable, and maintainable shell scripts for automation and operational support. • Hands-on experience with Linux/Unix command-line utilities such as grep, awk, sed, cut, sort, uniq, find, xargs, tar, rsync, curl, wget, jq, and netstat or ss. • Good understanding of file handling, text processing, log parsing, data extraction, and report generation using shell commands. • Experience with process management, job control, background execution, signal handling, exit codes, and return status validation. • Ability to implement robust error handling, input validation, logging, retry logic, and exception handling within shell scripts. • Knowledge of permissions, ownership, sudo usage, environment variables, PATH management, and secure script execution practices. • Experience scheduling and managing automated tasks using cron, systemd timers, or enterprise scheduling tools. • Ability to debug scripts using set options, tracing, log analysis, shellcheck, and structured troubleshooting methods. • Understanding of script portability, performance optimization, and compatibility across different Linux/Unix distributions. Key Responsibilities • Develop, enhance, and maintain Bash scripts for system administration, file processing, monitoring, reporting, backups, deployments, and operational automation. • Automate repetitive manual tasks to improve efficiency, reduce errors, and standardize operational procedures. • Support Linux/Unix environments by troubleshooting script failures, permission issues, file transfer failures, job failures, and application startup or shutdown issues. • Build scripts to monitor disk usage, CPU, memory, services, logs, file availability, process health, and application status. • Integrate Bash scripts with tools such as Git, Jenkins, Ansible, Docker, Kubernetes, cloud CLIs, monitoring platforms, and ticketing systems where applicable. • Use text-processing tools such as awk, sed, grep, and jq to extract, transform, and validate operational data. • Create secure scripts that protect credentials, avoid unsafe command execution, validate user input, and follow least-privilege principles. • Document script purpose, usage, input parameters, dependencies, configuration files, expected outputs, and troubleshooting steps. • Participate in code reviews, change management, incident management, and production deployment activities. • Collaborate with infrastructure, DevOps, application, database, network, and security teams to deliver reliable automation solutions. Required Technical Skills • Hands-on experience in Bash scripting in Linux/Unix environments. • Strong command-line proficiency and ability to combine utilities using pipes, redirects, filters, and command chaining. • Experience with shell script debugging, error handling, logging, and performance tuning. • Working knowledge of Linux file systems, permissions, users, groups, processes, services, networking commands, and package management. • Experience with cron jobs, shell functions, configuration files, environment variables, and script parameterization. • Basic understanding of networking concepts such as DNS, ports, connectivity checks, SSH, SCP, SFTP, HTTP, and HTTPS. • Familiarity with G
