Job description

Who we are:

Reliable Controls is dedicated to reducing the carbon footprint of buildings around the world. Our team specializes in the design, development, and assembly of building automation controls and software programs. We're working hard to create solutions for building operators to enable the vision of Net-Zero Emissions by 2050.

We align ourselves with the right people and empower them in the right ways. An established company based in Victoria, BC, we nurture a strong culture of communication, trust, and collaboration. Embracing a work–life balance, promoting continuous learning, and celebrating our achievements are a few of the ways we show our enduring commitment to employees.

Your mission:

As a Software Developer, Engineering at Reliable Controls you’ll design and implement intelligent building control systems that help our customers achieve aggressive green initiatives. Specifically, you'll develop the software that our customers use for the engineering phase of their projects. Our products leverage data modeling, fault detection and diagnostics, identity and access management, and domain business knowledge. Using domain driven development, SOLID and clean architecture principles, and modern design patterns, you’ll help us build world-class software services and efficient, autonomous building management systems.

In this role you will:

  • Design, estimate, review, test, debug, and document code
  • Support and guide our software development life cycle processes
  • Collaborate in Scrum meetings and help drive team activities
  • Address customer support and technical support issues when needed
  • Support and mentor others in their work efforts and outcomes
  • Address software architectural considerations
  • Monitor, assess, and address technical debt
  • Guide good coding practices and rules, and identify items for improvement

This role might be right for you if you have:

  • Strong understanding of C++ with at least 3 years experience in developing C++ applications
  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field
  • Web development experience with an understanding of mobile frameworks
  • Experience in embedded web development framework (i.e. Chromium, WebView2)
  • Experience in Web Development using HTML, CSS, and component-based JavaScript frameworks Vue, React, etc.)
  • Experience with Git, TFS, and Visual Studio Code
  • Experience with automated unit/functional testing
  • Agile software development experience (Scrum, Kanban)
  • Strong communication skills

You’ll be successful in this position if you:

  • Are an enthusiastic, innovative individual who cares about sustainability
  • Look for ways to have a meaningful impact on your team's work
  • Are interested in using devices to control the physical environment, and you're willing to learn our products and industry
  • Like a challenge and want to grow professionally
  • Are patient and diligent; quality may take longer, but you know it's worth it
  • Value a healthy work–life balance; we don't expect you to work overtime or weekends

What we offer:

Competitive Compensation & Rewards: Your hard work and dedication don’t go unnoticed. We offer:

  • A competitive extended health and dental plan for you and your family
  • A yearly RRSP contribution on the company’s behalf, plus employee contribution matching to support your financial growth
  • An annual profit sharing bonus that recognizes your contributions to our growth
  • A salary that is based on market data and reviewed annually, with merit increases and cost-of-living adjustments

Work–Life Balance & Flexibility: We know quality work comes from a balanced life. That’s why we offer generous paid time off and hybrid work options whenever possible.

Health, Wellness & Community: Your well-being matters. Enjoy access to free on-site gyms at both Victoria locations, along with social events nearly every month. Prefer green commuting? You’ll even be paid for choosing sustainable transportation.

Learning, Mentorship & Growth: We offer $2,000 per year reimbursement for learning and development related to your role, mentorship from experienced team members, and development pathways to help you grow.
