Job description

Quote

You will shape the platform that every Engineer at DC builds on, from our developer portal, Backstage to the pipelines and automation underneath. You will own real capability areas, with room to grow your technical scope as the platform and the team grow.

Here’s what the job entails

In the role, you will build and improve developer-experience features end to end, from infrastructure orchestration to our Backstage developer portal. You will design and strengthen secure, compliant CI/DC pipelines and the golden paths developers rely on. You will also own one or more capability areas and drive them forward with engineers, architects, product managers and other stakeholders.

Concretely, your areas of responsibility will include the following:

  • building and improving the tools and pipelines our developers use every day, so shipping software is fast, safe, and consistent across the company

  • making sure the platform meets regulatory and compliance requirements by building secure-by-default, auditable workflows into how we work

  • taking ownership of one or more parts of the platform, for example the developer portal or the automation that provisions infrastructure, and drive them forward with the team

  • turning developer and stakeholder feedback into platform improvements that drive adoption

  • establishing engineering standards and documentation that keep the platform scalable and maintainable

Meet your team

You will join our Developer Experience Engineering team, where our primary role is to make it easy and safe for every engineering team to build, ship and run software the same way everywhere. We build and run our internal developer platform, a Backstage developer portal, a Platform API, and a fully automated Kubernetes setup. We own the developer experience from the underlying infrastructure up to some of the tools developers use every day.

We are a team of platform and infrastructure specialists with various engineering backgrounds. We value collaboration, knowledge and taking initiative, and we protect psychological safety and an iterative way of working to support this. We document as we go and help each other get the job done.

But enough about us… over to you!

As you will be working with the entire developer platform, we imagine that you will take a holistic, pragmatic approach by seeing how technical choices affect developers, security and business and then pick the best solution for each problem. You will engage with various stakeholders and have an eye for improvement, so clear communication and open collaboration is key: you gather feedback, share what you know and follow through so good ideas actually land.

Furthermore, we imagine that you:

  • hold a relevant technical background, such as Computer Science or Engineering, or have equivalent experience

  • have solid hands-on experience with CI/CD and Kubernetes in production

  • are experienced with infrastructure as code, for instance Pulumi or Terraform

  • have a strong grasp of secure-by-default engineering and software development lifecycle (SDLC) practices

  • like to document your work and set engineering standards

  • are proficient in English – both written and spoken

Please note that prior knowledge of the energy sector is not required for this role.
