About the role
- We are seeking a Software Engineer to design, develop, and maintain data workflows and automation pipelines using Apache Airflow. The ideal candidate will support the creation of reliable, scalable, and observable workflow orchestration solutions that enable data engineering, analytics, and operational mission needs. The successful candidate will collaborate with data engineers, platform teams, and stakeholders to develop secure, production-ready solutions that improve data processing efficiency and automation.
What you'll do
- Responsibilities include:
- Design, develop, and maintain Apache Airflow workflows and data pipelines.
- Build and optimize workflow orchestration solutions using Airflow DAGs, operators, and sensors.
- Develop automation scripts and tools to improve operational efficiency.
- Support data engineering and analytics workflows across complex environments.
- Troubleshoot, monitor, and enhance workflow performance and reliability.
- Develop software solutions using Python and Java.
- Support distributed data processing using technologies such as Apache Spark.
- Utilize containerization technologies to deploy and manage scalable solutions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver secure and mission-focused capabilities.
- Maintain source code using modern version control practices.
Qualifications
- Required Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship with an active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph (if applicable to the program).
- One of the following education/experience combinations:
- Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline plus 3+ years of Software Engineering experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline plus 5+ years of Software Engineering experience.
- 7+ years of Software Engineering experience supporting programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.
- Experience working with Linux command-line tools and environments.
- Experience developing Bash scripts for process automation.
- Recent software development experience using Python and Java.
- Experience with Apache Airflow, including DAG development, scheduling, operators, and sensors.
- Experience with distributed data processing frameworks such as Apache Spark.
- Experience with containerization technologies including Docker, containerd, and Podman.
- Experience using Git source control.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with the Atlassian Tool Suite, including JIRA and Confluence.
- Familiarity with AWS cloud services and infrastructure.
- Experience supporting cloud-based data engineering environments.
- Knowledge of workflow automation, data pipelines, and distributed computing architectures.

The pay range for this role is:
185000.00 - 200000.00 USD per year (Annapolis Junction, MD)
