Reports to: Senior Managing Director, Global Progress Action
Staff reporting to this position: None
Department: National Security and International Policy
Position classification: Exempt, full time; Union – Level 1
Compensation range: $52,000–$57,200 per annum
Work site: On-site (Washington, D.C., office)

Summary

American Progress is seeking a Special Assistant for its Global Progress Action team. The team’s work is dedicated to incubating innovative international strategies and ideas on a global scale by convening and engaging with leaders, thinkers, and policymakers. This individual will advance Global Progress Action’s mission, programs, and policy offerings by assisting with the development and implementation of high-quality research, events, and operations.

The work will be driven by American Progress’ mission to improve the lives of all Americans through bold, progressive ideas, as well as strong leadership and concerted action, with the aim to not only change the conversation, but to change the country.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide support for Global Progress Action (GPA) priorities and cross-team collaborations.
  • Support the development, production, and distribution of GPA written products, including Progressive Playbook.
  • Assist with research, analysis, and data synthesis to support GPA’s content production, including Policy Working Groups.
  • Develop regular network updates, surveys, and write-ups.
  • Preliminarily research, draft, and edit letters, invitations, memos, briefings, and other documents.
  • Support the implementation of internal processes and support GPA’s operational professionalization.
  • Provide logistical support and note-taking and be the point of contact for all GPA’s public events, conferences, and external meetings, including its annual summit.
  • Process invoices, contracts, and other administrative forms.
  • Coordinate leadership schedules, meetings, travel, and other relevant administrative support functions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements and qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • One to two years of relevant professional experience.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to balance multiple projects at once.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with high standards of accuracy.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with a team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with senior officials with discretion and professionalism.
  • Self-starter mentality and willingness to seek direction as needed.
  • Ability to travel outside of the United States.
  • Commitment to American Progress’ mission and goals.
