Job Description

Required Documents

Brief Description of Position:
• Conducts speech and language screenings, without interpretation, and uses screening protocols developed by the Language, Speech, and Hearing Pathologist
• Provides direct treatment assistance to students
• Documents student progress toward meeting established objectives and reports the information to therapist
• Assists the therapist during assessments by assisting with documentation and performing clerical duties
• Adapts or modifies instructional materials and/or equipment as determined by student needs and abilities
• Observes and reports significant behavioral patterns or other problems to the therapist
• Prepares various teaching materials such as charts, pictures, word lists, and other related items
• Assures the health and safety of students by following health and safety rules; assists students regarding the building of self-esteem and development of a value system; assist students by providing proper modeling, emotional support, friendly attitude and general guidance.

Requirements / Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
• Associates (AA) degree in speech-language pathology or communication disorders, or graduation from a speech-language assistant program.
• Current registration as a Speech Language Pathology Assistant issued by the California Speech Language Pathology & Audiology Board; prior SLPA experience in educational or clinical settings is preferred.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondences.
• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations of students, co-workers, parents and other employees of the organization.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure; compute rate, ratios, percent.
• Ability to deal with problems involving a few known variables in routine situations.
• Ability to communicate and interact with staff, students, parents and others in an open, friendly, business-like manner.
• California Driver’s License required by the first day of service.

Salary Info

Range 13 on Classified Salary Schedule ($30.44 - $49.59). Initial placement up to Step 5.
