Job description

About EH Group Engineering

EHG is developing cutting-edge fuel cell technology for heavy duty mobility and large-scale stationary power applications. Our uniquely redesigned product is a significantly more compact fuel cell with high power density and lower costs of production. Faced with the challenges of climate change and the transition to a decentralised energy system, EHG seeks to provide high performance and cost-effective fuel cell solutions to our clients and partners.

To help achieve our vision of a decarbonised future we are seeking a Materials Engineer to select, characterise and qualify the materials that make our fuel cell technology more compact, durable and cost-effective.

Key Responsibilities:

• Select, specify and qualify materials for stacks (membranes, GDLs, bipolar plates, gaskets, coatings)

• Characterise materials and analyse degradation, corrosion and durability mechanisms

• Define material specifications, acceptance criteria and incoming inspection methods

• Work with suppliers to develop and industrialise new materials

• Support root-cause analysis of material and interface failures

• Collaborate with process, test and design engineering on material trade-offs and cost reduction

• Document findings and maintain the materials database

Skills and Experience Required:

• BSc/MSc/PhD in materials science, chemistry, chemical or mechanical engineering is mandatory

• Minimum 5-6 years of materials engineering experience, ideally in fuel cells, batteries, coatings or electrochemistry

• Experience with material characterisation techniques (SEM, XRD, mechanical/electrochemical testing)

• Experience with various lamination, decal coating or others is a plus

• Understanding of polymers, metals, coatings and their behaviour in electrochemical environments

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

• Team player able to work autonomously with internal and external experts

• Excellent spoken and written English/French is mandatory; German is a plus
