Job Title

Staff Software Engineer, Industrial Automation Software Lead

This role is currently hybrid/remote, with some travel expected

About the Job

We are building foundational software for complex physical systems across new and existing production environments. This role sits at the boundary of software, automation, and system design, with room to define new abstractions rather than inherit old ones.

What You'll Do

  • Define and build core software primitives for machine-facing systems

  • Develop internal platforms, interfaces, or languages that simplify control, integration, and iteration

  • Support software that can span internal deployments, partner environments, and future international programs

  • Work across software, controls, and operations to turn messy workflows into durable systems

  • Explore opportunities to externalize parts of the work where it creates leverage

Required Qualifications

  • Significant experience building production software systems with strong technical taste

  • Fluency in system design, APIs, abstractions, and developer-facing tooling

  • Ability to create structure in ambiguous, fast-moving environments

  • Comfort working across software, automation, hardware, and operations

  • Strong engineering judgment and a bias toward simple designs

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with compilers, interpreters, DSLs, IDLs, or related tooling

  • Experience in industrial, robotics, embedded, or machine-control environments

  • Experience supporting software across multiple facilities or external partners

  • Interest in open systems and extensible platforms

  • Experience leading technical direction for a small, high-output team
