About JerseySTEM:

All JerseySTEM roles are pro-bono (unpaid) positions.

JerseySTEM is a mission-driven professional network of pro-bono contributors dedicated to improving access to STEM education and career pathways for underserved middle school girls in New Jersey.

Members contribute their professional skills and leverage their networks in service of the organization’s gender-equity agenda.

Membership is a minimum six-month commitment of approximately six flexible hours per week and includes a $100 refundable deposit, returned after six months of active membership. K–12 educators, retirees, veterans, interns, and students are exempt from the deposit.



Overview:
 
JerseySTEM is a non-profit organization that provides free after-school instruction in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) related disciplines to middle school girls in underserved communities in New Jersey in order to interest girls to study and potentially become employed in jobs in STEM related professions.

Responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities:

As a Program Instructor, you will play a pivotal role in delivering engaging and effective STEM-focused lessons and activities to middle school students of various skill levels. Your main responsibilities include:

  • Delivering in-person interactive and hands-on lessons in STEM subjects.
  • Providing guidance and support to students during classroom workshops, and events.
  • Collaborating with other instructors, volunteers, and staff to develop and improve curriculum materials and program content.
  • Assessing student progress and providing constructive feedback to students, parents, and other stakeholders.


Qualifications:
To succeed in this role, you should possess the following qualifications and skills:
  • Currently enrolled in college or grad school, while majoring in a relevant field (e.g., computer science, engineering, mathematics, education).
  • Experience teaching or mentoring students in a STEM-related subject area is a plus
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with relevant technologies, tools, and software applications.

 

Additional Information:

  • This is a part-time position for Federal Work Study Grantees
  • The workshops are on-site at select venues near your campus.
  • Travel to and from job location will be provided, if requested.

 

Workshop Details:
 
Length: 10 weeks - Fall semester (Late Sept - Early Dec); Spring semester (Late Jan - Early Apr)
Class Duration: 2 hours of on-site instruction per week + one 4-hour training session at kick off
Topics: Coding, Robotics, Chemistry, Biology , Engineering, Energy, AI/Cyber
Logistics: Free transportation to workshop venue is available via Uber or mileage reimbursements
Location: Select venues close to your college campus in New Jersey. Typically 15mn Uber ride.
