Wilson Health is looking for a direct hire Sterile Processing Technician for our location in Sidney, Ohio (North Dayton, Ohio) area.

Position Reports To: Sterile Processing Team Lead / Department Manager

 

Department Description

Sterile Processing at Wilson Health is essential to patient safety and surgical success. As a Sterile Processing Technician I, you are responsible for decontaminating, assembling, inspecting, wrapping, sterilizing, and distributing surgical instruments and equipment for Surgical Services and other hospital departments. You ensure the clinical team has the tools they need to deliver safe, high-quality patient care.

 

Job Summary

The Sterile Processing Technician I is a hands-on clinical support role focused on ensuring the availability and safety of all surgical instruments and equipment. You follow the direction of the Sterile Processing Team Lead to maintain high standards for instrument decontamination, assembly, inspection, and sterilization. You collaborate with surgical teams, OR staff, and hospital departments to support patient care, maintain workflow efficiency, and promote a culture of safety, quality, and professionalism. You serve as a resource for staff, address real-time challenges, and create a positive work environment where staff feel supported and patients feel safe.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect patient equipment and used instruments; determine proper processing methods according to hospital policies.
  • Inspect instruments for damage and report concerns to Team Lead or Department Manager.
  • Assemble, wrap, and prepare instruments for appropriate sterilization methods.
  • Maintain detailed tray lists and sterilization records.
  • Monitor instrument repairs and request replacements to ensure trays are complete and ready.
  • Inform OR, OB, and ER teams of missing instruments or instruments sent for repair.
  • Clean and maintain crash carts and specialty carts; distribute throughout hospital as needed.
  • Maintain adequate sterile inventory and supplies to complete cleaning, processing, and sterilization.
  • Ensure patient safety and maintain a clean, orderly, and safe environment.
  • Follow hospital policies, infection control protocols, and safety guidelines.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members and hospital staff.
  • Assist with orientation of new personnel when needed.
  • Attend mandatory in-services and promote professional growth.
  • Take a fair share of weekend and holiday call and respond promptly.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, within the scope of responsibility.

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Strong attention to detail and dependability
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Basic computer skills preferred (Microsoft Word, Excel)
  • Associates expected to obtain CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) certification through the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materials Management
  • Ability to perform essential functions with reasonable accommodations as needed

Physical & Vision Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift equipment
  • Close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, plus ability to adjust focus for instrument assembly
  • Ability to read fine print on labels and view computer screens
