Role Overview

In this role, you will apply your structural engineering expertise to support the design, analysis, validation, and fabrication of manufactured equipment, plant tooling, and structural components within the Data Center Solutions/Silent-Aire business. You will plan and conduct independent engineering work, develop practical and code-compliant solutions, and help ensure structural integrity across drawings, calculations, and manufacturing execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform structural analysis and design for lifting beams/devices, HVAC equipment, modular equipment, and other manufactured products.

  • Prepare, review, and modify drawings, specifications, calculations, charts, and graphs to support fabrication and approval workflows.

  • Create, supervise, and approve structural drawings for manufacturing and fabrication purposes.

  • Collaborate with production, safety, and other engineering disciplines to resolve structural challenges and support cross-functional delivery.

  • Work with third parties and relevant jurisdictions to support structural design approvals when required by project scope.

  • Develop cost/benefit studies and design justification for structural component sizing and selection on company product platforms.

  • Inspect work on the manufacturing floor to confirm conformance with approved structural designs.

  • Provide leadership within a multidisciplinary engineering and manufacturing environment while supporting continuous technical improvement.

  • Apply knowledge of structural and safety codes to help ensure designs align with accepted engineering practices.

How You Will Do It

  • Own your work with accountability, safety, and integrity, especially when designs affect people, equipment, and production flow.

  • Stay close to the shop floor and the production process so solutions are practical, buildable, and aligned with customer needs.

  • Use clear analysis, sound judgment, and direct communication to remove obstacles quickly and keep projects moving.

  • Improve every day by applying technical curiosity, asking candid questions, and using problem-solving to strengthen future designs.

  • Work as one team with production, safety, manufacturing, and other engineering disciplines to deliver reliable outcomes.

  • Use structural engineering software, calculation packages, and fabrication inputs to validate designs and support engineering decisions.

  • Balance code compliance, manufacturability, and cost efficiency to produce lean and effective structural solutions.

  • Maintain organized documentation and follow-through so approvals, inspections, and handoffs are accurate and timely.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering.

  • 10+ years of experience in structural engineering with experience in steel design.

  • Professional Engineering (P.Eng) license is required.

  • Ability to produce lean, efficient, and easily constructable designs that support cost reduction goals.

  • Experience working with outward-facing clients and the ability to communicate professionally and effectively.

  • Experience with MS Excel, MathCAD, RISA

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks on strict deadlines.

  • Self-starting approach with strong attention to detail and a commitment to continuous technical learning and personal development.

  • Ability to perform under occasional stressful situations and tight deadlines.

  • Willingness to travel throughout North America, including domestic and U.S., as needed.

  • Ability to work in an occasional shop environment where PPE is required and safety awareness is essential.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with cold-formed steel design.

  • Experience with seismic design.

  • Experience with vibration and dynamic loading.

  • Experience with self-framed buildings.

  • Finite element analysis (FEA) experience.

  • Exposure to metal fabrication and a manufacturing-style work environment.
