Position Overview

 

Under the general direction of the Director of Accessibility & Student Support Services, the Student Accessibility Services Program Coordinator will provide services to students in order to assist the college in meeting the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and various state laws. Under general supervision, this position performs work requiring knowledge and experience specific to providing resources, technical support and orientation to instructional and support staff of students with disabilities; coordinates testing and note-taking accommodations; strong knowledge of how to work with Accommodate; maintains records; performs program administrative tasks.

As the Student Accessibility Services Program Coordinator, it is expected that the following qualities will be demonstrated daily: a high degree of understanding and empathy for all students, faculty, staff and visitors, as well as the ability to encourage the inclusion of all voices in decision-making, promoting equity in all areas, and actively working against institutionalized norms of oppression against historically marginalized people.
 


Employee Type: Full Time Classified, Permanent

Initial Salary: $3,738.00 - 4,201.00  Monthly DOE + 5% King County Premium Pay (KCPP)

Supervising Position: Director of Accessibility & Student Support Services 

Essential Duties

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the first point of contact for prospective students, enrolled students, and other community members by explaining the functions of the SAS office and how students can receive disability-related accommodations at Cascadia College.
  • Coordinate requests for note-taking, accessible course materials, ergonomic furniture, and other possible accommodations. Prepare a variety of materials (e.g. information sheets, emails to students/faculty, instructions, reminders, updates, etc.) to inform the community about SAS related procedures
  • Schedule and coordinate ASL Interpreters. This includes collaborating with multiple interpreting agencies and students to ensure every student who needs an interpreter has one. 
  • Coordinate exam scheduling with students and faculty. Serve as the main proctor for the SAS Testing Center by utilizing a camera recording system to monitor the testing rooms to ensure the integrity of each exam and monitor for specific/unique situations.
  • Act as a scribe/reader for students who require this accommodation for exams and quizzes. 
  • Maintain and coordinate the department¿s Accommodate system. Accommodate allows SAS to track and maintain students¿ accommodation requests. This includes providing trainings on how to use Accommodate for students and faculty, updating templates in Accommodate as needed, process new student files, and manage the workflow in Accommodate (ex: sending out Letters of Accommodation to faculty and students).
  • Coordinate video captioning accommodations and delivery of pre-recorded media content by collaborating with faculty, Cascadia¿s E-Learning department, and outside vendors who provide captioning services. This may include reviewing videos for caption accuracy.

Education & Experience

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school graduation or equivalent
  • 2 years experience of administrative support, customer service, or equivalent education and experience
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experiencing working with individuals with disabilities in a professional setting
  • Demonstrated commitment to and interest in diversity, equity and inclusion and the ability to support a multicultural workplace and educational environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor¿s degree
  • Experience working in higher education
  • General knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504, Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and other relevant related laws
  • Ability to successfully communicate (written and orally) in a language in addition to English

Knowledge of:

  • Familiarity with state and federal disability nondiscrimination laws
  • Understanding the social model of disability and how it can be applied in an educational environment
  • Knowledge of cultural competencies needed to work with the disability community. 

Skill in:

  • Strong organization and time-management skills
  • Strong written communications skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills in both group and individual settings
  • Skill in working on multiple projects at once during times where others needs must be met
  • All levels of English communication including communication in a second language highly desired

Ability to:

  • Ability to successfully work with individuals with diverse backgrounds including, but not limited to prior education history, future education goals, English proficiency, race, color, religion, sex and/or gender (including expression), sexual orientation, national origin, age, backgrounds, abilities, and national origin.
  • Support and promote diversity, equity and inclusion in the work and educational environment
  • Ability to adapt approach in interpersonal communication based on a disability-specific need 
  • Ability to remain calm when working with others who are dealing with outcomes from a traumatic experience.

Terms of Employment

This is a full-time, twelve-month Classified position. This position works 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday; may include occasional evening responsibilities. The position is allocated to pay Range 41 under the Higher Education Salary Schedule. Initial base salary placement is $3,738.00 - $4,201.00 per month, with yearly step increases to the maximum salary of $4,980.00 (Step M) per month (not including the 5% King County Premium Pay). This is a represented position.

Cascadia College employees receive a 5% King County Premium Pay in addition to base salary for the 2026-2027 Fiscal Year.

This position has been designated as a bargaining unit position by the Washington Public Employees Association. Following a successful probationary/trial service period, employees attain permanent status.  

Cascadia College offers a comprehensive benefit package including tuition fee waiver. 

 

Physical Work Environment

Semi-Sedentary Work: Involves staying in a stationary position to a significant degree. Jobs are sedentary if moving is required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

The College is currently in hybrid operations, with many assignments completed in an online environment during this time. Full-time employees are expected to be on-campus at least three (3) days per week with the option to work remotely for the remainder of their working days. This position will perform work in a standard office setting, use standard office equipment and physically attend meetings both on and off campus and requires the ability to communicate in person or through appropriate means.

Positions in this class typically require operating a computer, communicating, observing, and repetitive motions.

This position involves exerting between 10-30 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to transport, put, install, remove, or otherwise move objects, with or without reasonable accommodation.
