Job Description

Job Title: Student Employee - VACA Student Lead



Department: Visual and Communication Arts



Supervisor: Rachel Herr



Employment Type: Work Study or Work Program; Part-time, hourly, non-exempt



Pay Range: $13.00 - $13.00



 



Job Summary:



The Student Employee is responsible for assisting the staff in the assigned department. The Student Employee position will focus on administrative support, learning support, or specialized support while offering educational and career growth.



 



Duties/ Responsibilities:




  • Provide excellent customer service to students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors.

  • Answer incoming phone calls.

  • Perform a variety of administrative and/or office duties.

  • Provide assistance and support to faculty and/or staff in completing special projects as assigned.

  • Perform general administrative responsibilities in support of the department/office/campus.

  • Complete department-specific projects as assigned.

  • Attend the workplace regularly as scheduled, report to work punctually, and follow a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite.

  • Support the values of the University.

  • Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.



 



Position Specific Duties/Responsibilities:




  • Oversee and perform cleaning tasks in the art center and digital media areas to ensure a tidy and functional environment with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.

  • Work with supervisors to determine and prioritize tasks and potentially serve as a teaching assistant or tutor for students enrolled in VACA classes.

  • Assist with training new work-study students, helping them to understand their responsibilities, and offering guidance and support with the ability to work independently and coordinate with multiple team members.

  • Assist in planning and organizing events for the VACA department and Arts Club, contributing to a vibrant and engaging community; experience with event planning and coordination is a plus.

  • Should be enrolled as a third or fourth-year student at EMU with experience working in the VACA department with the ability to conduct regular meetings with all work-study students to coordinate tasks and ensure effective communication.

  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

  • Ability to make entry-level decisions.

  • Demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Willingness to ask questions.

  • Understanding of basic department procedures.

  • Ability to maintain a level of professionalism during working hours.

  • Has a genuine desire to help their peers succeed.

  • Be currently enrolled as a student at EMU.



 



Education and Experience:



High School diploma.



 



Physical Requirements:



While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and use hands and fingers, to handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and climb or balance. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
