Job description

Intro / Job Brief

The role of a Technical Analyst-Apprentice is to closely support, shadow, and assist our Senior Technical Expert while learning the systems required to systematically create and present the fastest and most cost-effective solutions to building problems. This unique position is designed for a developing professional with a foundation in general construction and electrical systems who wants to rapidly accelerate their career into forensic consulting, expert witness services, and high-level project management.

The ideal candidate will have a background that mirrors our expert’s disciplines—combining hands-on technical or engineering aptitude with an eagerness to absorb decades of specialized knowledge.

The right candidate for this position will demonstrate:

  • Integrity, professionalism, and a strong drive to deliver high-quality work.

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • An innate curiosity and aptitude for understanding, summarizing, and explaining complex electrical, mechanical, and general construction issues.

  • A clear desire to learn, grow, and transition eventually into the role of a Technical Consultant or Testifying Expert.

Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

1. Mentorship & Expert Support

  1. Shadow the Senior Expert on active cases spanning commercial, industrial, and residential construction disputes.

  2. Assist in the research and preparation of forensic analysis for contract disputes, personal injury claims (lighting/electrical), surety/public works cases, and fire/explosion investigations.

  3. Learn the frameworks of plaintiff and defense expert casework.

2. Building Inspection and Property Condition Assessment

  1. Attend site investigations alongside senior team members to inspect structures, electrical distributions, mechanical, and plumbing systems.

  2. Rigorously document site visits with photographs, detailed notes, single-line diagrams, and checklists.

  3. Prepare detailed inspection summary narratives under the guidance of the expert.

3. Document Analysis & Construction Forensics

  1. Review, analyze, and summarize construction documents (architectural/electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, contracts, change orders, and daily logs).

  2. Review legal documents (complaints, depositions, expert reports) to extract relevant technical data.

  3. Conduct focused research on building codes, standards of care, and specialized industry standards (e.g., National Electrical Code [NEC], International Building Code [IBC], NFPA 921, and IESNA guidelines).

  4. Utilize PFCS systems to organize data in a clear, concise, and verifiable manner.

4. Cost Estimating / Cost Analysis

  1. Assist in preparing scopes of work, cost estimates, and cost comparisons for remediation.

  2. Analyze economic impacts and loss valuations related to construction defects or project delays.

5. Preparation of Technical Reports & Presentations

  1. Present data, document analysis, and site findings clearly to the internal expert team.

  2. Collaborate with Project Coordinators to draft high-quality forensic reports that adhere to PFCS standards.

  3. Assist in assembling presentation materials for construction defect claims, accident claims, and allocation of responsibility analyses.

6. Professional Administration & Development

  1. Track and record billable hours meticulously, striving to meet target monthly goals.

  2. Collaborate with management to set quarterly professional development goals aligned with company and licensing objectives.

Qualifications & Requirements

  1. 3+ years of experience in the construction industry, with a strong emphasis on electrical systems, general contracting, or construction engineering (a blend of technical field experience and relevant education is highly valued).

  2. Bachelor of Science degree (preferably in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, Civil/General Engineering, or a related discipline). An MBA or business-minded focus is a plus.

  3. Strong foundational proficiency in reading blueprints, architectural drawings, and electrical single-line designs.

  4. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to turn complex technical field data into actionable information.

  5. Intermediate computer skills, including proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, and online research utilities.

  6. Ability to perform the physical requirements necessary to conduct onsite inspections (climbing ladders, walking active jobsites, carrying equipment).

Preferred Licenses, Certifications, & Affiliations

Candidates possessing or actively working toward any of the following will be given priority consideration:

  1. Possession of (or distinct willingness to obtain) a Journeyman or Master Electrician license, or a General Engineering/Contracting license C10, C-2, or B status.

  2. Active certifications or outreach training completion (e.g., 30-Hour OSHA Outreach).

  3. Familiarity with or interest in joining professional associations such as the International Code Council (ICC), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), or Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
