Job Description

Applications are invited for the position of Technical Assistant, carry the functional title of Interviewer (several posts) at the Social Sciences Research Centre (SSRC) within the Faculty of Social Sciences (Ref.: 536390)

Duties and Responsibilities



  • Travel to or remain stationed at designated survey sites to conduct surveys with respondents, not limited to in-person, door-to-door or via telephone

  • Strictly adhere to established survey protocols, sampling methodologies, and screening processes to ensure valid and unbiased data collection.

  • Employ interviewing skills to create a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental environment for respondents sharing difficult experiences. Politely and professionally handle respondent questions, objections, or refusals while maintaining an empathetic tone.

  • Ensure the strict confidentiality and secure handling of all respondent information and collected data.

  • Meet daily/weekly productivity and quality assurance goals


 


Requirements



  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Native fluency in Cantonese.

  • Ability to listen to difficult or emotionally heavy accounts while maintaining professional boundaries and personal emotional well-being.

  • Able to travel to and remain at designated survey sites for the duration of scheduled working shifts. Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate the schedules of the respondents.

  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Comfortable navigating deeply personal conversations with strangers. High level of accuracy in listening, following complex routing protocols, and recording information.

  • Comfortable using mobile devices (tablets/smartphones) and basic data entry applications.

  • Previous experience in counselling, social work, victim advocacy, healthcare, or conducting research with vulnerable populations would be an advantage


 


What We Offer


The appointment will commence as soon as possible in temporary basis for 3 months. A competitive hourly rate commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered. The University will make a mandatory 5% MPF contribution in accordance with Hong Kong regulations. The appointment is project-based; subject to satisfactory performance, opportunities for participation in future data collection campaigns may be available.
