We are seeking a Technical Editor/Writer.
This role is located on-site in Ventura, CA.
Duties and Responsibilities:
ESN is seeking a Technical Editor/Writer to join our engineering team to generate, update and maintain U.S. Navy Combat System Technical Capabilities and Limitations documentation for multiple ship classes. Responsibilities include:
- Engaged in the performance of authoring Combat Systems Capabilities and Limitations (C&L) projects for US and FMS AEGIS Combat Systems to include associated weapons systems.
- Review technical/tactical documentation and assess relevancy to be included in a C&L project
- Provide insight into the development and management of technical processes, policies, procedures and operational schedules necessary for providing C&L to the fleet.
- Coordinate within a team environment to define, develop, plan, and execute timelines for development and completion of C&L projects.
- Experience/knowledge of Aegis Weapon System (AWS) and/or SPY 1 Radar - high priority.
- Taking red-line/draft materials from engineers and updating integrated text and graphics content for complex, multi-volume technical documents.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience using various production software (Adobe Acrobat Pro, FrameMaker, etc.).
- Formal training on FrameMaker helpful.
Skills and Abilities:
- Required Skills:
- Applicants must be very familiar with FrameMaker and creating/maintaining complex publications or documents.
- Must have experience authoring in both XML and non-XML, and delivering in standard electronic formats (XML, HTML and PDF) and in hardcopy.
- Strong computer skills with solid understanding of MS Office.
- Able to learn quickly, organize concepts and materials, share knowledge, and speak effectively.
- Experience with configuring FrameMaker and resolving problems or issues that arise within the team using the software.
- Establishing and administering a FrameMaker-based site for collaboration within the team. Knowledge of SGML/XML/S1000D.
- Helpful but not required skills:
- Knowledge or experience of US Navy AEGIS and/or Ship Self Defense System (SSDS) systems.
- Knowledge of various XML editing or online document management system software.
Security Clearance:
- Applicant must hold an active Department of Defense (DoD) SECRET personnel security clearance.
