About the job

A problem isn’t truly solved until it’s solved for all. That’s why Googlers build products that help create opportunities for everyone, whether down the street or across the globe. As a Technical Program Manager at Google, you’ll use your technical expertise to lead complex, multi-disciplinary projects from start to finish. You’ll work with stakeholders to plan requirements, identify risks, manage project schedules, and communicate clearly with cross-functional partners across the company. You're equally comfortable explaining your team's analyses and recommendations to executives as you are discussing the technical tradeoffs in product development with engineers.

As a Technical Program Manager (TPM) in the Privacy, Safety and Security (PSS) Tech Foundations and Research (TFR) Program Management Office (PMO), you will drive the execution of the PSS Reliability Program, a key pillar of our unified 2026 System Maturity initiative. You will partner with cross-functional TPM,
Software Engineer (SWE), and SRE leads across PSS pillars (OCR, UP, PSDP) to improve the reliability and quality of our critical Ring 0/1 systems. You will partner with SWE/SRE leads to translate top-down directives into pragmatic solutions, influence team priorities, and define program management best practices. This role requires navigating ambiguity, executive communication, exercising strong technical judgment to assess developer burden, and advocating for system reliability. You will be instrumental in establishing PSS-wide commitments to remediate high-risk areas, ensuring exceptional reliability for Google's security and safety infrastructure.

The Core team builds the technical foundation behind Google’s flagship products. We are owners and advocates for the underlying design elements, developer platforms, product components, and infrastructure at Google. These are the essential building blocks for excellent, safe, and coherent experiences for our users and drive the pace of innovation for every developer. We look across Google’s products to build central solutions, break down technical barriers and strengthen existing systems. As the Core team, we have a mandate and a unique opportunity to impact important technical decisions across the company.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $163000 - $237000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities

  • Scope, plan, and deliver critical workstreams within the PSS reliability program, translating ambiguous program goals into structured, executable project plans.
  • Partner with and influence executive SWE/SRE Pillar Stewards and cross-product area cross-functional teams (Core Risk, SRE, PARM) to drive accountability and prioritize critical risk remediations.
  • Author and deliver persuasive progress reports and risk burn-down metrics for PSS Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and Core executive reviews.
  • Assess developer burden and determine if existing infrastructure/technologies can be leveraged for implementation. Advocate for the technical/operational importance of reliability by articulating the impact of potential outages.
  • Establish and own the tracking and governance framework to monitor risk remediation progress, manage complex dependencies, and negotiate conflicting priorities.
