It is a Centre of Excellence for SMBC’s business in Europe, Middle East & Africa and provides a growing range of intra-group services across a variety of Control and Support functions’.  

Role Summary

This role is responsible for the end-to-end application management and production support of Compliance systems, including Communication Surveillance, Trade Surveillance, Employee Conflicts of Interest, and associated regulatory platforms.

As part of the Back Office Application Management team, the AVP plays a key role in ensuring platform stability, regulatory compliance, and operational resilience. The role requires strong ownership, acting as a senior escalation point, and driving continuous improvement across service delivery, controls, and processes.

Position Description

This role provides senior-level production support and application management for Compliance platforms, with responsibility for ensuring high availability, robust controls, and effective incident management. The AVP acts as a key escalation point for major incidents, coordinating resolution across internal teams and vendors.

The role also leads or contributes to change initiatives, regulatory implementations, audits, and risk remediation activities, while driving improvements in automation, monitoring, and operational processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead incident management and act as an escalation point for high-priority issues
  • Oversee user support, ensuring strong ownership and timely resolution of requests
  • Ensure effective batch monitoring and operational oversight across critical processes
  • Drive change management, working closely with business, development, and vendor teams
  • Manage vendor relationships and service performance
  • Own and deliver audit responses, control validation, and remediation actions
  • Act as SME for Compliance platforms, supporting project delivery and controlled production releases
  • Oversee release management across PROD / REL / QA / UAT environments
  • Coordinate with infrastructure teams to maintain resilient and scalable platforms
  • Drive service delivery improvements, including automation, monitoring, and control enhancements

This role reports to the Back Office Application Management Team Lead and works collaboratively across Application Management functions to deliver a scalable, resilient, and compliant platform aligned to SMBC’s strategic growth.

Skills - Knowledge - Experience

Essential:

  • Proven experience in Application / Production Support within a regulated financial services environment
  • Strong experience managing multiple high-priority incidents concurrently, with the ability to remain effective under pressure and make sound decisions during critical situations
  • Solid understanding of Incident and Change Management processes, with experience leading resolution and coordination
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with both peers and senior stakeholders
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively across teams and drive outcomes in a cross-functional environment
  • Advanced analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking capabilities

Desirable:

  • Experience supporting Compliance or Regulatory applications (e.g. surveillance, conflicts of interest, regulatory reporting)
  • Exposure to Communication Surveillance, Trade Surveillance, or Employee Conflicts of Interest platforms
  • Good understanding of audit, risk, and regulatory obligations within financial services
  • Experience working with and managing third-party vendors
  • Familiarity with service management and collaboration tools (e.g. ServiceNow, JIRA, Confluence)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
  • Understanding of financial products, markets, and associated regulatory impacts
  • Previous experience working within an Application Support function

Systems / Applications:

  • Support and monitoring tools: AutoSys, Splunk, PowerShell, ServiceNow, JIRA
  • Business applications: NICE Actimize (Surveil-X), StarCompliance, Bloomberg Transaction Cost Analysis
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
