What you will be doing:

  • District 8 Geotechnical program manager, Geotechnical lead for transportation projects within District 8, Develops project scopes for geohazards and provides input on scopes for projects throughout the district. Reviews project plans (ODOT Let and Local Let) for conformance with ODOT geotechnical standards and specifications as well as constructability.   

  • Supports District Construction staff to solve a wide range of construction problems involving items such as pile driving, MSE walls, drilled shafts, and chemical stabilization.   

  • Reviews and accepts geotechnical shop drawings on behalf of the district. Senior Project Manager

           Official Position Description:

Acts as staff specialist (i.e., develops engineering policies & plans projects concerned with unique or controversial problems which have significant impact on major organizational programs; keeps abreast of new scientific methods & developments affecting department & recommends changes in emphasis of programs, represents administrator in administration of contracts involving multiple complex projects, programs & directives & develops &/or revises policies & directives based on field observation & testing, & in addition, responsible for the administration of the District’s miscellaneous construction program; this involves work in all eight counties & includes, but is not limited to, construction projects for paving, pavement marking, bridge painting & raised pavement marker installation; this responsibility includes all aspects of the field contract administration including supervision of project personnel, project record keeping, project coordination, finalization of projects, pre-sale review, etc.; signs engineering documents & plans as a registered professional engineer.

Checks & approves designs of proposed & complete structures including emergency plan changes; performs hydraulic calculations on plans/designs for review purposes; assess feasibility & soundness of proposed engineering designs when necessary data is insufficient or conformation by testing is advisable.

Administers Construction Department activities program to discuss & solve project problems that may occur such as drainage, culverts, bridges, paving unstable subgrade, etc.; assists in policy development; meets with, travels to, advises, & counsels engineers, contractors, & officials from other political subdivisions on departmental policy; monitors inventory records, inventory & appraisal forms, structural ratings, etc., & reports any change to supervisor; researches plan preparation; resolves complaints from public.

Assists in research projects with other departments; reviews final project inspection to assure conformance with state specifications.

Licensed as registered professional engineer by Ohio State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers & Surveyors; 2 yrs. exp. as group or project leader or supervisor providing work direction & training to employees engaged in engineering projects or 2 yrs. exp. in managing engineering research projects (i.e., managing research projects applies only to staff specialist positions); if assigned to operate a state vehicle to travel to & inspect project sites, must possess valid driver’s license. 

-Or licensed as registered professional engineer by Ohio State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers & Surveyors; 12 mos. exp. as Transportation Engineer 3, 85643; if assigned to operate a state vehicle to travel to & inspect project sites, must possess valid driver’s license. 

-Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above may be substituted for the experience required, but not for the mandated registration.
