VisitSPC Fall/Spring Intern

Location: 8200 Bryan Dairy Rd., Suite 200, Largo, FL 33777

Schedule: up to 30 hours a week, typically Monday - Friday during regular work hours (8:30am to 5pm). Some weekend work may be required. Opportunities to work from home on select days.

 

Are you a current college or university student looking for a paid Fall/Spring internship in the Tampa Bay Area? Pinellas County's official tourism marketing and management organization is looking for you!

 

This position will assist the Convention and Visitors Bureau, also known as Visit St. Pete-Clearwater (VisitSPC), for two semesters (up to 24 weeks) as a student intern of an educational institution. Work performed will vary upon assignment and may involve multiple VisitSPC departments during the 24-week period. Duties include, but are not limited to research, proofreading copy, website and customer relationship management (CRM) database updates, assistance with planning and implementing brand activations, website content creation, social media assistance, and more. 

  • Work is performed under the guidance of a VisitSPC manager and may involve work in evenings or weekends, as needed, but will not exceed 30 hours per week. 

  • Professionalism and reliability are critical to a student’s success in VisitSPC’s Internship Program. 

  • Interns will spend the majority of time working in Brand Activations, Data & Digital Platforms, Sports Commission and the Film Commission Departments with other project assignments as determined by VisitSPC. Internships are on a 24-week timeframe. 

 

Fall/Spring Internship is generally from the 2nd week of September to the 2nd week of April (includes breaks for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years). 

 

What Will You Do?

  • Assist with activations and promotions that support VSPC’s brand in the local market such as:
    • Elite Events (e.g. Clearwater Jazz Holiday, Sugar Sand Festival, Johns' Pass Seafood Festival)
    • Sporting Events (e.g. Valspar Championship)
    • Other Attractions & Local Partners 
       
  •   Assist with planning and implementing logistics for all facets of familiarization tours (FAMs) or other VSPC activations, including but not limited to:
    • Creating FAM itineraries.
    • Scheduling and reserving necessary assets for trade shows, sales missions and other activations.
    • Coordinating marketing and/or digital components, as needed.
    • Executing all phases of setup, including load-in and load-out.
    • Creating talking points specific to an event.
    • Completing pre-event plans & post-event reporting for each event.
    • Ensuring brand standards are upheld.
  • Assist with inventory of marketing assets and collateral. 

  • Update VisitSPC’s websites and CRM with accurate event and partner information.  

  • Perform research on promotional items, activations, and services that promote and increase VisitSPC’s brand exposure. 

  • Assist with event contracts and community relations. 

  • Assist VisitSPC departments with internal and external communications and customer service. 

  • Work with attraction partners to enhance editorial business profiles. 

  • Assist VisitSPC with creation of social media content including the capture of destination vertical video. 

  • Perform related work as assigned or required. 

     

 

What Do You Need To Have?

  • Must be currently enrolled as a sophomore or higher level student in a college/university marketing, communications, tourism/hospitality, or related program.

  • Writing sample may be required. 

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as necessary. 

  • Remote Work Policy: This position requires employees to live within a 60-mile radius of Pinellas County and maintain the ability to report to the assigned worksite as needed. If you relocate outside the required 60-mile radius, you must receive advance approval from the County Administrator. Failure to meet this requirement may affect your continued eligibility for the position.

     

 

Highly Desirable

  • Knowledge of the St. Pete/Clearwater area attractions and offerings.  

  • Student attending a Tampa Bay area college or university. 

  • Depending on assignment, student may need excellent writing, copy editing and proofreading skills. 

     

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the tourism industry, especially, Pinellas County tourism. 

  • Ability to perform research and analyze results. 

  • Ability to perform updates to websites and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) database. 

  • Ability to apply computer applications and software, including all Microsoft Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook). 

  • Ability to be detail oriented, multi-task and prioritize work. 

  • Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques. 

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. 

  • Ability to be self-motivated and goal oriented.

  • Ability to lift/handle up to 50 pounds.
