Description

Assembles metal products, such as valves, or hydraulic cylinders, partially or completely, working at bench or on shop floor by performing the following duties:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Positions parts according to knowledge of product or following bills of materials.


• Removes small quantities of metal with hand files, pneumatic grinder, or grinding wheel.


• Operates drill presses to assist in assembly operation.


• Operates test equipment to evaluate product.


• Performs suitable maintenance.


• Stocks inventory.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.  The employee frequently is required to stand and walk.  The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision to read shipping instructions; distance vision to pull products from storage areas; and color vision to distinguish color tags.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and risk of electrical shock.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud from drilling the product on the drill machines and hammering pins into the product.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

No prior experience or training required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers.  Ability to print and speak simple sentences.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers. 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions.  Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
