Job description

About the Role:

The Welding Technician plays a critical role in the durable goods manufacturing industry by ensuring the precise fabrication and assembly of metal components. This position requires expertise in various welding techniques, including arc and TIG welding, to produce high-quality, durable products that meet stringent industry standards. The technician will be responsible for interpreting technical specifications and fabricating parts, often without detailed prints, demonstrating adaptability and problem-solving skills. Additionally, the role involves performing heat treating processes and conducting destructive tests to verify the integrity and performance of welded assemblies. Ultimately, the Welding Technician contributes to the production of reliable and safe products, supporting the company’s commitment to excellence and customer satisfaction.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completion of a recognized welding certification program or apprenticeship.
  • Proven experience with arc welding and TIG welding techniques.
  • Familiarity with operating plasma cutters, drill presses, and precision measuring tools.
  • Knowledge of heat treating processes and destructive testing methods.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in durable goods manufacturing or a related industrial environment.
  • Certification in advanced welding techniques or metallurgy.
  • Experience fabricating components without detailed prints or blueprints.
  • Familiarity with bumper fabrication or automotive component welding.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform arc welding and TIG welding operations on various metal components according to specifications.
  • Operate plasma cutters and drill presses to prepare materials for welding and fabrication.
  • Conduct precision measuring to ensure components meet exact tolerances and quality standards.
  • Fabricate metal parts and assemblies without relying solely on prints, using experience and judgment.
  • Apply heat treating techniques to enhance the strength and durability of welded parts.
  • Perform destructive testing on welds and assemblies to assess structural integrity and compliance.
  • Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to troubleshoot and resolve fabrication issues.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment, adhering to all safety protocols and regulations.

Skills:

The Welding Technician utilizes heat treating skills daily to improve the mechanical properties of welded components, ensuring durability and performance. Precision measuring is essential for verifying that fabricated parts meet exact specifications, which directly impacts product quality. Operating plasma cutters and drill presses allows the technician to prepare materials efficiently and accurately for welding processes. Expertise in arc and TIG welding techniques is applied to join metal parts securely, often requiring adaptability when fabricating without detailed prints. Additionally, conducting destructive tests provides critical feedback on weld integrity, enabling continuous improvement and adherence to safety standards.
