Position Summary:
Under direct supervision of the Gas Water Sewer (GWS) Supervisor, Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP), Supervisor or Water Systems (WS) Supervisor, cleans and maintains facilities and grounds, and assists in the repair, construction, and maintenance of county’s gas, water, and wastewater systems. Maintains confidentiality of privileged information.
Minimum Qualifications:
•High School Diploma or GED.
•Must be at least 18 years of age.
•Must possess or have ability to obtain within sixty days of employment and must maintain a valid New Mexico Class D driver’s license.
•Must possess, or ability to obtain within six months of employment, First Aid and Defensive Driving Certifications.
•If working in Water Production or Gas, Water and Sewer, must be a US citizen and must be able to obtain a non-cleared Department of Energy (DOE) badge for access to Los Alamos National Laboratory.
•Successful completion of the pre-employment physical exam prior to commencing work.
•If working in Gas, Water and Sewer, successful completion of mandatory drug screening and subsequent random drug and alcohol screenings.
JOB TITLE: Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Apprentice 1, 2

SUPERVISOR: Wastewater Treatment Plant Supervisor
Position Summary:
Under direct supervision of the Wastewater Treatment Plant Supervisor, assists with maintenance of wastewater treatment facilities, wastewater laboratory and sludge composting facilities. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.
Minimum Qualifications:
•High School Diploma or GED.
•One year experience in wastewater treatment operations or electrical and mechanical maintenance.
•Must possess and maintain New Mexico Water Quality Control Commission Wastewater Level I certification, or equivalent from another jurisdiction. If certified in another jurisdiction, must receive New Mexico Water Quality Control Commission Wastewater Level I certification within six months of employment.
•One year of experience, as recognized, documented, and approved by the NMED Utility Operator Certification Program (UOCP), in wastewater treatment operations or related field experience, including electrical, piping, mechanical repair, composting and related processes.
•Required levels of experience may be a combination of direct wastewater plant operator experience (minimum of one year) and related experience (minimum of one year) as recognized and approved by the NMED Utility Operator Certification Program.
•Must possess or obtain a wastewater bio-solids compost facility operator technical certification within one year of employment and maintain certification thereafter.
•Must possess and maintain a CDL-B driver’s license with air brakes and tanker endorsements within sixty days of employment. If licensed in another state, must transfer licensure to New Mexico within sixty days of employment.
•Must possess First Aid and Defensive Driving certifications within one year of employment and maintain certification thereafter.
•Successful completion of the pre-employment physical exam prior to commencing work.
•Successful completion of mandatory drug screening and subsequent random drug and alcohol screenings.
•Successful completion of annual fit testing for use of a half face air purifying respirator.
Additional Minimum Qualifications for Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Apprentice 2:
•Additional one year experience in wastewater treatment operations, including experience with basic electrical and mechanical maintenance.
•Must possess and maintain New Mexico Water Quality Control Commission Wastewater Level II certification, or equivalent from another jurisdiction. If certified in another jurisdiction, must receive New Mexico Water Quality Control Commission Wastewater Level II certification within six months of employment.
•Two years of experience, as recognized, documented, and approved by the NMED Utility Operator Certification Program (UOCP), in wastewater treatment operations or related field experience, including electrical, piping, mechanical repair, composting and related processes.
•Required levels of experience may be a combination of direct wastewater plant operator experience (minimum of two years) and related experience (minimum of two years) as recognized and approved by the NMED Utility Operator Certification Program.
Preferred Qualifications:
•Experience in arc welding and oxygen/acetylene welding.
•Experience in sludge composting operations.

Position Summary:
Under general supervision of the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Supervisor, operates, repairs and maintains wastewater treatment facilities and equipment, and the bio-solids composting facility. Functions as the wastewater laboratory technician. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.
Minimum Qualifications:
•High School Diploma or GED.
•Three years of experience, as recognized, documented, and approved by the NMED Utility Operator Certification Program (UOCP), in wastewater treatment operations, including electrical, piping, mechanical repair, composting and related processes.
•Required levels of experience may be a combination of direct wastewater plant operator experience (minimum of two years) and related experience (minimum of two years) as recognized and approved by the NMED Utility Operator Certification Program.
•Must possess and maintain New Mexico Water Quality Control Commission Wastewater Level III certification or equivalent from another jurisdiction. If certified in another jurisdiction, must receive New Mexico Water Quality Control Commission Wastewater Level III certification within six months of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:
•Experience with Programming Logic Controllers.
•Instrumentation and controls experience.
•New Mexico Water Quality Control Commission Wastewater Lab Tech certification.
