Job description

Job Summary:

 

The Controller is a critical in-office leadership position responsible for the company’s financial operations and reporting. This is a hands-on senior management role at our Estero office where you will directly supervise accounting staff, have frequent face-to-face collaboration with the President, EVP of Sales, EVP of Low Voltage, CTO, and project managers, and ensure smooth collaboration across departments.

 

Typical duties will include overseeing and executing day-to-day functions such as maintaining the G/L, A/P, A/R, and payroll, and having full responsibility for the financial statements. Primary accountabilities shall include cash flow management, budgeting, and mitigating financial risks. The Controller will work closely with financial consultants and our outside CPA firm for audits, conformance to GAAP, and tax filings. The candidate must possess strong customer skills to manage A/R days, invoice issues, and major project progress and variances.

 

Responsibilities:



  • Provide in-person oversight of accounting staff and handle day-to-day accounting operations of the company, including accounts payable and receivable.
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll (including wage calculations, benefits deductions, and vacation accruals) and manage preparation and reporting of payroll and related taxes.

 

  • Manage AIA/construction invoicing, including working closely with project managers to maintain schedules of values, timely submit payment applications, lien waivers, and manage financial aspects of subcontractor engagements.
  • Managing client and vendor contracts and billing and ensuring timely and accurate processing of invoices and payments.

 

  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and tax laws.
  • Support the nationwide growth and expansion of the organization into additional states through regulatory research and foreign entity registrations.
  • Manage risk by identifying and mitigating financial, legal, and operational risks.
  • Manage the company’s insurance policies and renewals.
  • Manage employee benefits including health insurance and related tax and compliance reporting.

 

  • Manage cash flow and liquidity to ensure adequate funding for operations.
  • Develop and manage annual budgets and forecasts in collaboration with the executive team.
  • Identify, present, and implement cost savings ideas and methodologies.

 

  • Review project proposals for financial conditions and acceptance.
  • Review and approve purchase decisions for job equipment/materials and company assets.
  • Manage financial aspects of procurement and implementing procurement policies for inventory

 

  • Participate in operational meetings onsite with department heads and key personnel to identify stale tickets, job cost issues, and profitability concerns.
  • Provide customer and/or project status reports depicting the financial status of the account or job including outstanding A/R, revenue totals, estimated margin, etc.

 

  • Work in conjunction with all department heads to reduce costs and ensure maximum profitability.

 

  • Create monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and statements including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
  • Weekly business metric calculation from a variety of sources and posting to the executive dashboard.

 

  • Manage financial systems and processes to streamline accounting and reporting activities.
  • Manage financial policies and procedures to ensure compliance with accounting principles, laws, and regulations.
  • Assist in development of company policies ensuring alignment with financial best practices.
  • Provide financial analysis and advice to the executive team to support strategic decision-making.

Qualifications:



  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA or CMA designation preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting/financial management, preferably with an IT, MSP, or commercial construction company.
  • Expertise with QuickBooks Enterprise desktop.
  • Expertise in managing financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow.
  • Expert understanding of accounting principles, laws, and regulations, including GAAP and IFRS.
  • Strong leadership presence with a commitment to mentoring and developing accounting staff in person.

 

Work Location:  In-office at our Estero, FL headquarter (required – this is not a remote or hybrid position).

 

Employment Terms:  Full-time, In-office, Exempt, Salary.  Eligible for benefits (medical, dental, vision, life, AD&D, disability) and 401(k) after introductory period.  Typical business hours are from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding company-observed holidays.
