Job description

Founding Software Engineer, Full-Stack & Platform

Boston or NYC · Hybrid · Full-time · $160K - $190K + equity

Life sciences sales reps operate in unusually complex environments, supporting surgeons, physicians, and clinical teams across pharma and medical device. They navigate clinical evidence, competition, patient access, and tightly regulated information, often making decisions about what to say or the best actions to take while alone in the field without support.

Vincer is building a voice-first AI system that helps them navigate those moments in real time. The product has to understand messy, unstructured situations, assemble the right context, retrieve approved knowledge, orchestrate multiple AI systems, know when to escalate, and respond fast enough to feel conversational.

Our product direction is clear, the customer problem is painful and real, and the path to revenue is taking shape. We're looking for a founding engineer who wants to own the production spine of a voice-first AI system and have influence over what gets built for our life sciences customers.

ABOUT US

Vincer is a pre-seed company founded by a veteran healthcare startup leader and built out of MIT's entrepreneurship ecosystem, where it continues to be supported through MIT programs. Over the past year we've built and validated the core AI technology with senior technical advisors and contractors, including sitting CTOs and VPs of Engineering. That work proved the technical approach and got us to a working system that customers are now evaluating. What it did not do is put a full-time owner on it. That's this role.

You'll be one of the first two salaried engineers, joining alongside a Founding AI Engineer and the co-founders. There is no engineering organization above you handing down decisions. You'll inherit a working MVP and get to decide what to keep and set the technical direction and future roadmap with us.

Why This Matters

Field teams are an important connection between life sciences companies and the surgeons, physicians, and clinical teams using their products. When reps struggle to find the right information, recognize an issue, or get the right support, the consequences extend beyond sales performance. A clinician may not get the treatment information they need when they need it, a surgeon may not feel confident using a device, or an important problem in the field may never make its way back to the organization. We want to give field teams better support in the moments where judgment, knowledge, and speed matter most.

THE ROLE

You will own the product platform behind Vincer's user experience, spanning backend services, APIs, data flows, real-time communication, and infrastructure. Vincer is being built for enterprise life sciences customers, where security, compliance, auditability, reliability, and trust matter from day one.

Low latency is a product requirement. A voice-first system only works when context retrieval, model reasoning, orchestration, and response generation happen fast enough for conversation to feel natural.

The system is agentic by design: it decides when to act, not only what to say. Agents work from rep activity and accumulated context rather than waiting to be prompted, coordinate across multiple models and data sources, and make a judgment call about whether to handle something directly, route it, or escalate it to a human. Getting that behavior to be reliable, observable, and safe in a regulated environment is a core engineering challenge.

Examples of Core Projects

  • Deliver the real-time systems that make voice interactions fast, resilient, and natural in the field

  • Build the runtime behind a multi-agent system that acts on its own initiative: triggering, state, memory, and the guardrails that make autonomous behavior safe for enterprise customers

  • Build the integration layer that connects Vincer to the systems reps and managers already live in: CRM (Veeva, Salesforce), Slack, Teams, and customer data APIs

  • Expand the backend services and cloud infrastructure behind live customer use, and own what that requires: observability, deployment, reliability, cost

  • Build the data foundation for customer workflows, reporting, and auditability

  • Establish the security and compliance posture that enterprise life sciences customers require, with guidance from advisors who have implemented AI systems inside life sciences organizations

  • Ship internal tools, customer-facing data interfaces, and simple web/mobile experiences

WHO WE NEED:

Our ideal candidate has worked in a startup environment in recent years and wants to join a new venture at its earliest stages. You understand that early product development requires fast iteration across platform, AI, systems, and customer learning. You are located in Boston or NYC and understand that regular in-person collaboration is non-negotiable.

Required Experience

  • 5+ years of full-time software engineering, building full-stack systems with a strong backend, API, and platform orientation

  • Experience with real-time, streaming, or low-latency systems: voice, video, collaboration, gaming, or similar

  • You've owned cloud infrastructure end to end on a major provider

Strengthens Your Case

  • Enterprise software delivery, especially in a regulated industry (healthcare, finance, or similar)

  • Experience integrating with enterprise SaaS and customer data systems, such as CRM, identity, or communication platforms (i.e. Slack, Teams, etc.)

  • Experience with non-deterministic systems in production, and opinions about how to evaluate and roll back behavior you can't unit-test

  • Enough frontend range to ship internal tools and customer-facing data interfaces without a dedicated frontend team

How You Work

You have strong architecture and database instincts, and you know when boring proven technology is the right answer and when the product genuinely needs something specialized. You use modern AI coding tools as a matter of course and expect a small team to ship beyond its size. You want broad ownership, fast decisions, and the accountability that comes with them.

This role owns the engineering foundation that carries Vincer from early deployment through scale. If that’s the kind of challenge you want to own, we’d like to hear from you!

***At this time, Vincer is unable to hire candidates who require employment visa sponsorship or employer participation in work authorization programs.***
