Your Role
As a Senior API Backend Developer, you will play a key role in designing, building, and evolving robust, scalable, and secure backend services using Python FastAPI. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software solutions, drive technical excellence, and contribute to architectural decisions that support long-term business and client needs.
Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and RESTful APIs using Python FastAPI.
Lead the design of backend architectures and contribute to technical decisions that ensure performance, maintainability, and scalability.
Collaborate with frontend developers, product teams, and other stakeholders to integrate user-facing elements with server-side logic.
Optimize applications for maximum speed, reliability, and scalability while ensuring security and data protection best practices.
Review code, enforce engineering standards, and mentor other developers to promote high-quality, maintainable code.
Identify system bottlenecks, troubleshoot complex issues, and drive performance and reliability improvements.
Participate in and influence the full software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, solution design, development, testing, deployment, and production support.
Promote best practices in API design, testing, observability, and CI/CD automation.
Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and backend engineering practices, and proactively recommend improvements where relevant.
Who You Are
Minimum of 5+ years of experience in backend development, with strong expertise in Python and solid hands-on experience with FastAPI.
Strong understanding of RESTful API design principles, microservices architecture, and distributed systems concepts.
Proven experience designing scalable and maintainable backend systems in production environments.
Proficient in SQL and/or NoSQL database design, optimization, and performance tuning.
Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing strategies, and modern DevOps practices.
Solid understanding of application security, authentication/authorization mechanisms, and secure coding practices.
Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex technical challenges and propose pragmatic solutions.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in cross-functional, collaborative environments and to guide technical discussions.
Experience mentoring junior or mid-level developers and contributing to team growth is highly valued.
AI-Native Engineering (Core Expectation)
Use Generative AI coding tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor) as a first-class engineering assistant for:
Code scaffolding and refactoring
Code generation and optimisation
Test-cases and documentation generation
Build applications through AI-driven development practices, including:
AI-assisted debugging and troubleshooting
Intelligent code completion and pattern recognition
Automated documentation generation
Apply prompt engineering best practices for reliable, repeatable engineering outcomes.
Validate GenAI output (determinism checks, guardrails, fallback logic).
